  2. theproyouth initiative • Aim: Implementation anddisseminationof an Internet-basedplatformfor mental healthpromotion, illnessprevention, andearlyinterventionin eatingdisorders • Background: - Current healthcare fails to significantly alleviate the consequences of mental illness (e.g. due to limited availability, reach, and effectiveness of treatments).- Prevention and early intervention may have a significant impact on public health by avoiding onset of mental illness and limiting severity of onset.- Many individuals affected by eating disorders seek help late or not at all.

  4. theproyouth online platform(www.proyouth.eu) • To raise awareness & to educate  Information, Videos & News(Information and psycho-educational materials) • To provide individualized information  Screening & Monitoring(Feedback on symptoms, attitudes, and behaviors) • To provide support online Forum & Chat(Peer support und expert counseling) • To refer individuals to regular care (Facilitate access to treatment, reduce barriers to helpseeking)

  5. theproyouth online platform F2F + Personal contact + Intensity + Cost Chat(Group and individual) Monitoring, supportive feedback, if necessary „alarm“ to counselor Psycho-education & Peer support(Information & News Section, Forum) Screening & Feedback Aims:- Combination of automated and personalized modules - Match intensity of intervention to individual need for support - Facilitate transition from online to face-to-face support

  6. ongoingdissemination(statusoct 2013) Activities Reach • Face-to-face (e.g.workshops in schools, colleges) • Online promotion • Social media • Print media • More than 150.000 young people have been informed about the initiative • More than 13.000 have used the screening tool. • More than 5.500 have registered to get access to all modules of the platform.

  7. ongoingresearch • Shame, stigmatizingattitudes, limited knowledgerelatedtoeatingdisordersandreluctancetoseek mental healthcarearehighlyprevalent in adolescentsandyoungadults. • ProYouthreaches an underservedpopulationandmayreducebarrierstohelpseekingpeople • Clear relationshipbetweenimpairmentandutilizationofProYouthmodules (i.e., matchbetween individual needsandlevelofsupport)
