  5. d Running Start. • Opportunity for HS juniors and seniors. • Take college courses while in high school. • Enroll in high school and college classes at the same time OR solely in college classes. What is Running Start?

  6. d Running Start. • Eligible for equivalent of two years of high school. • Take college-level courses; 100 level or above. • Receive high school and college credit for completed classes. • College classes are tuition-free if combined credit limit does not exceed 1.2 FTE.** • Students pay for books, supplies, transportation, and fees. How does Running Start work?

  7. d Running Start. • **Recent changes (as of fall 2011) • Combined high school and college credit limits pay NO tuition…example: Student who takes 15 credits at CBC and 1 high school class or 10 credits at CBC and 2 high school classes • Students pay tuition for credits over 15 How does Running Start work?

  8. d Running Start. • College placement test (COMPASS) is required. • Must place into college-level reading and in either math or English, at college level. • Test during the spring of your sophomore year. • Computerized test--no time limit. • Test takes about three hours. How do I qualify for Running Start?

  9. d Running Start. w/ Running Start (not going over the combined 1.2 FTE) w/out Running Start Attending College After High School Cost Savings - 2 Yrs. Tuition • $0 • CBC $6,594 • WA State Public University $10,000-$16,000

  10. d Running Start. • Courses not offered at local high school. • Earn up to two years of college credit, without paying tuition. • Can earn Associates of Arts degree (AA degree) and high school diploma at the same time. Running Start Advantages

  12. d Running Start. • A student must supply official free or reduced-price lunch eligibility documentation from the school district, that which they are receiving Running Start credits. • Current proof of eligibility is required each academic year. Low-Income Fee Waiver
