  1. FUNGI By: Karl, Aimee, Ryan, Christian, and Ezra

  2. WHAT ARE FUNGI? • Fungi are small living things that often grow on soil. Like plants, they can’t move. Some of them are poisonous like the mushroom named Death Cap which poisons your liver. Some form a resemblance to moss, while others form a resemblance to a plant’s roots. One form of fungi are the microscopic single celled yeasts. They aren’t really noticeable except for when they are growing on fruits and other things. Some examples of Fungi are: mushrooms and molds. There are over 100,000 species of fungi MOLDY CHEESE

  3. MUSHROOMS • A mushroom is a spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus. They are usually produced above ground. Some mushrooms are edible while others are very deadly. Mushrooms are also sometimes used as medicine. Mushrooms release spores that sometimes cause allergies and other things.

  4. MOLDS • Molds are fungi that grow in the form of multicellular filaments named hyphae. The single celled yeasts are also a type of mold. Molds do not form a specific group but can be put into the groups Zygomycota, Deuteromycota, and Ascomycota. Molds can cause disease and spoiled food.

  5. ADAPTATIONS • One of fungi’s many adaptations are that they can grow almost everywhere including extreme environments such as a desert. In the ocean, forests, and more. Some can even survive extreme radiation (If you absorb too much radiation your dead.) They can also live off of dead animals which is probably why they can adapt to harsh places.

  6. REPRODUCTION • In the case of mushrooms, they multiply by releasing spores then let the wind carry them away. Some molds can reproduce by just itself, others need to mate to reproduce.

  7. EVOLUTION • The evolution of fungi has been going on since around 1, 500 million years ago, way before even the first dinosaurs came to Earth. They learned to adapt to more and more places until eventually they are growing all over the world.

  8. DISEASES THAT FUNGI CAN GIVE YOU • Some diseases fungi can give you are: • Skin diseases • Bladder Diseases • Kidney Stones • Heart Problems • And many more

  9. INTERESTING FACTS • The most poisonous mushroom in the world is the Death Cap. Someone that eats it is usually dead after 6 – 16 days after eating the mushroom. • The biggest mushroom in the world are Oregon’s monster mushrooms. They were discovered in an ancient African forest. They are not only the biggest mushrooms in the world but the biggest living organism ever found.
