  6. Word Structure day 1 • The pairs of words in this line are homophones. • Homophones may be the same part of speech, like hair and hare. They are both nouns. • They can be different parts of speech, such as waist and waste. Waist is a noun. Waste is a verb. • The only relationship they have is that they sound the same. They are completely different words with different meanings. Line 1

What type of genre is this called? • This story is set in a small town in Mexico called Patzcuaro, where many of the descendents of the Purepecha people live. They were conquered by the Spanish in the 1500s, but many still speak the language of their ancestors, as well as Spanish, and practice their traditions.

An appositive is a noun that is placed next to another noun to identify it or add information about it. An appositive phrase is a group of words that includes an appositive and words that describe the appositve. An appositive can be used to combine sentences when another sentence has additional information about something in the first sentence. Appositives can make your writing more campact, make it flow better, and add sentence variety.
