  2. DWA- Direct Writing Assessment • This is a state-wide test to see if you can write a 5-paragraph essay. Very simply put, you will be writing the BEST 5 PARAGRAPH ESSAY you possibly can. • 5 paragraphs • Clear introduction • First,…… • Second, …….. • Third,……. • In conclusion, ……. • LOTS of supporting details • Spelling COUNTS • Write at least 8-9 sentences per body paragraph (it may seem like a lot, but it is the key to getting a good score!)

  3. Scoring • You will be scored on a rubric out of 6 categories. Your first practice essay score MUST BE an 18. If you do not get an 18, you will not receive class credit until you write an essay that meets the 18 point requirement.

  4. Today, you are revising your essay. • Today, you need to revise your essay and score at least a 22 in order to receive credit. How can I possibly do this?! Well, thanks for asking! • Read through your feedback that you received for your last essay. • Pick ONE trait that you can improve on. • Focus on that trait as you write. • Ask Ms. Sullivan for help- I am your partner in this!

  5. Common errors • SPELLING (guys…let’s be real about this.) • Indent your paragraphs • Write AT LEAST 8 sentences in your body paragraphs • Sentence variety- follow a pattern of sentence structure • CAPITALIZATION
