  3. Subject/Verb Agreement The man with all the cars (live/lives) on my block. Either answer (is/are) acceptable. Every one of those pictures (is/are) photos.

  4. Apostrophes • Its It’s • Dog’s bowl • Dogs’ bowl • Charles’ car • Charles’s car

  5. Dangling Modifiers Paul saw the bluebirds playing with his telescope.

  6. Comma Splices • The sun came out, the clouds went away. • Computers have changed a great deal in the last twenty years, obviously computers have been around for much longer.

  7. Commas • John, the chair of our league, was unable to attend the meeting. • We did invite Mr. Carter, the actor; Ms. Hendrick, the producer; and Dr. Crane, the psychologist. • My brother Todd will visit tomorrow.

  12. Split Infinitives • He learned to diligently read in grade school. • Is it “To boldly go where no man has gone before?” or “To go boldly where not man has gone before?”

  13. Hyphenating Complex Adjectives • twelve year old girl • dark dank house • Springfield has little town charm. • The complex video game was clever.

  14. Adverbs • Meredith very happily accepted the job. • I am not certain about the facts. • She sort of felt left out by her friends.

  15. Passive Voice • The dog is brown. Brown is the dog. • The committee is considering action on the bill. • Picnics are enjoyable for all the employees.

  16. Parallel Structure Bill went to the store to buy milk, bread, and to find a toothbrush. The project manager told the team that they would have to meet on Saturday, that they would need to finish the project by noon, and to bring a lunch.
