  2. Do-Now • Have HW out (thesis statements AND questions to Crucible Act III questions) Do you think the court will believe Abigail and the girls or Mary Warren? Why or why not?

  3. Announcements: • Topic Sentences due for a standards grade on Thursday (tomorrow) • Remember that if you are missing standards on papers, HIGHLIGHT anything you change and re-send to me. I recommend that you do not wait until the last minute, as if you do not pass before the deadline, it will go to summer school. • Outside Reading due MONDAY.

  7. Sample Lit Analysis (from last week) • People will randomly be called up to highlight certain sections of the lit analysis and/or explain the effectiveness of each section.

  8. Topic Sentences: Topic Sentences: What are they?! • Outline what the rest of your paper will be about • Transition from one paragraph to the next (should make it so that your paper flows smoothly and seems connected).

Topic Sentences Example 1: • Thesis Statement: • At least 25 percent of the federal budget should be spent on helping businesses to upgrade to clean energy sources, researching renewable energy sources, and planting more trees in order to control pollution. Topic Sentences Cont’d: TIES IN THE LAST TWO PARAGRAPHS TIES IN THE LAST PARAGRAPH’S TOPIC • Topic sentences should FLOW and connect from the last paragraph. • Section 1 Topic Sentence: Because businesses contribute to large amounts of pollution, it is essential that money from the federal fund help businesses upgrade to clean energy sources to control pollution. • Section 2 Topic Sentence: Though helping businesses is the most important step in reducing pollution, money must also be allocated toward finding new and renewable energy sources to sustain the rest of the population. • Section 3 Topic Sentence: While the past two ways to control pollution have been very broad, people everywhere can get involved if the government can provide funds to plant trees, a final important way to reduce pollution.
