  2. The Iron Gate Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) Program is a partnership between Wells Fargo and Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity (SCHFH) developed to assist existing low income homeowners in a foreclosure impacted neighborhood in Jonesboro, GA.

  3. The Iron Gate Neighborhood Revitalization Program is a privately funded program to assist existing low income homeowners in a foreclosure impacted neighborhood in Jonesboro. While this program is part of the suite of services offered by Habitats across the U.S., this particular program is a Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity conceived initiative bridging a private and public partnership.

  4. The NRI Program allows us to serve more families by responding to community needs in a neighborhood where our current Habitat homeowners are thriving. Our partnership with Wells Fargo helps us to empower residents to  revive their neighborhoods and enhance their quality of life.

  5. Goal 1: NRI communities demonstrate a higherquality of life

  7. Goal 2: SCHFH serves more families The NRI Program targets 70 homeowners in the Iron Gate neighborhood who will receive program services. These neighbors will participate in six hours of home maintenance and financial education prior to qualifying to receive program services.

  8. Goal 3: Offer opportunities for home maintenance savings The program focus is targeted toward raising energy efficiency, to help in decreasing monthly household expenses. The program also allows for minor exterior repairs and maintenance to promote pride in homeownership and the community.

  9. Why do more now?

  10. Why should Habitat do more now? • Reason #1 • It’s our mission. Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating homes, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can live and grow.

  11. Why should Habitat do more now? • Reason #2 • In the current economy, more communities are at risk than ever before.

  12. Why should Habitat do more now? Reason #3 This initiative will speed the progress to our goal of strengthening our community. That’s 92 families served instead of 22!

  13. What is the NRI model?

  14. SCHFH’s definition of community development It is both a process and the result of an organized effortin a community, based upon shared visionof the quality of life they wish to achieve, leading toward greater—and sustainable—individual and collective well-being.

  15. Core tenets of community development at SCHFH We will: • Work in a distinct, definable community. • Assume a humble, listening posture with the community. • Respect and honor those who speak on behalf of the community. • Recognize that housing is one component of a revitalization strategy, contextualized to the community. • Endeavor to make a multi-year commitment. • Commit to a process of monitoring and evaluation for accountability.

  16. The benefits of NRI • To families: • It strengthens their community • Increases the potential for children to be raised in healthy and secure environments • To the community: • Creates multiple layers of commitment to the community • Creates a cohesive community that can more successfully weather economic turbulence • To Southern Crescent Habitat: • We serve more families in need • Offers us more integration into the communities we serve
