5. BSc Podiatry Who do podiatrists treat? Podiatrists treat all ages, and all walks of life         Children         People with diabetes         Sports men & women         Dancers         People needing nail surgery and laser surgery At postgraduate level there are Podiatrists performing surgery on foot conditions e. g. bunions and hammer toe deformities

6. BSc Podiatry What kind of treatment do Podiatrists use? Clinical skills - using a wide range of manual skills and chemical therapies Biomechanics- Using and in depth understanding of how the bones, muscles and tendons work Foot orthoses- This covers the design and manufacture of insoles and a variety of other devices, to help patients who have functional problems with their lower limbs Surgical skills - Using local analgesics podiatrists undertake some surgical procedures

BSc Podiatry Studying at The University of Northampton At all stages of the course you will have study time allocated Stage 1 – The academic modules underpin the clinical studies module and introduce the students to our “in –house” clinics and placement Stage 2 – Students will undertake regular clinics, placements, labs and academic modules National placement is at the end of stage 2 Stage 3 – Students will be researching for their dissertation, undertaking various specialist clinics, labs and academic modules

BSc Podiatry Expenses The University of Northampton currently pays indemnity insurance for all it’s commissioned students £85 not all schools of podiatry pay this The University of Northampton currently provides instruments (students only need to buy scissors) not all schools of podiatry do this The clinical uniforms (2 tops and 1 pair of trousers) are provided by the H.E.E. NHS funding (although extra may be purchased if needed) Additional expenses include a white lab coat and an optional lower limb skeletal model approximately £65 Commissioned students receive travelling expenses to placements. International students however will have to fund expenses incurred when travelling to placement locations although this will be less than other schools of podiatry due to our designated clinical unit Students will be expected to have suitable footwear for the clinical environment

BSc Podiatry Entry criteria • Applications are welcome from students who meet the following criteria: • Two passes at GCE advanced level (A2)  • Two passes at Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (Advanced GNVQ)  • A pass in an advanced Vocational Certificate of Education Double Award (Advanced GNVQ Double Award)  • Pass in an EDEXCEL (BTEC) National Diploma or Certificate  • Pass in a recognized Access Course • Three passes at Scottish Higher

17. BSc Podiatry Entry criteria • The University of Northampton Division of Podiatry prides itself on educating students of all ages • The following entry requirements apply for students aged 21 or above: • An access Certificate to Health or Science is acceptable • Any of the above qualifications • Open University Foundation courses if science related • A relevant professional qualification (e.g. Registered General Nurse)

18. BSc Podiatry DBS and Occ. Health Clearance Any spent or unspent convictions, cautions or warnings need to be declared at point of application and an enhanced CRB check will be undertaken prior to enrolment.

19. BSc Podiatry Applicants should apply to the course through UCAS UCAS Tariff for BSc (Hons) Podiatry Podiatry will normally expect tariff scores of 300 or above. Key Skills Podiatry will accept tariff scores gained through the achievement of key skill units as counting to the achievement of the overall Tariff score.
