The challenge • Mental health will is the leading global health challenge of our time • The global cost of mental illness is estimated to be $2.5T in 2010 and will rise to $6T by 2030* • The entire global health budget is $5.1T and the annual GDP for low income countries is $1T. * • Much of it is preventable if we address the social determinants of health particularly income inequality • We will get the most effective outcomes if we invest disproportionate resources into the welfare of children and young people WE NEED PEOPLE TO CARE * http://www.nimh.nih.gov/about/director/2011/the-global-cost-of-mental-illness.shtml
