  1. Hitachi U4100 sample compartment Aperture Detectors & integrating sphere Crystal Compartment modified to take optical rails and other components

  2. High precision fibre launcher

  3. One of only two UV4100 in the UK • * Special feature is large sample compartment and extreme photometric accuracy • * The Brunel machine is serviced & calibrated every year • * Some key parameters: • Wavelength range: 175 nm to 3300 nm • UV-Vis accuracy +- 0.2 nm • UV-Vis repeatability +- 0.1 nm • Slit width from 0.1 nm to 8.0 nm • Photometric accuracy (0 -> 0.5 OD) +-0.002 • Photometric repeatability (0 -> 0.5 OD) +-0.001 • [NOTE - can measure to OD of 5 but this is I think the range relevant to • the fibre work] • Baseline stability +-0.0004 OD per hour • Integrating sphere detector

  4. Problem • * The Brunel machine is serviced & calibrated every year • Current calibration visit – mirror needs replacing – so not recalibrated. • Waiting for replacement mirror – two months estimate.

  5. A B Quick analysis Circle radius of 12 pixels used, Integral intensity in arbitrary units. Background “black” is effectively 0
