  1. BTEC First in Performing Arts Unit D15: Crewing for Stage Performance

  2. To gain a pass you must: P1 assist with get-in/out, fit-up or strike under direction P2 set up scenic elements safely, under direction P3 produce a list of at least four backstage roles, giving a description of their responsibilities including their health and safety roles P4 follow a simple cue sheet and react to cues satisfactorily P5 set-up basic scenery/set to supplied plans under direction P6 convert a basic practical set to a scale drawing under direction P7 work safely in preparation and performance, demonstrating a basic awareness of relevant health and safety regulations.

  3. To gain a merit you must also: M1 assist with get-in/out, fit-up or strike taking some responsibility for processes implemented M2 set up scenic elements safely, solving problems during the process with assistance M3 describe at least four backstage roles, giving a detailed explanation of their responsibilities including their health and safety roles M4 follow a standard model cue sheet and react to cues correctly M5 set-up basic scenery/set to supplied plans with some direction M6 convert a basic practical set to a scale drawing with some direction M7 work safely in preparation and performance, demonstrating a clear awareness of relevant health and safety regulations.

  4. To gain a distinction you must also: D1 assist with get-in/out, fit-up or strike taking responsibility and instigating processes D2 set up scenic elements safely, solving problems during the process independently D3 explain at least four backstage roles, giving a comprehensive explanation of their responsibilities including their health and safety roles D4 follow a complex cue sheet and react to cues correctly and professionally D5 set-up complex scenery/set to supplied plans without direction D6 convert a complex practical set to a scale drawing without direction D7 work safely in preparation and performance, demonstrating a consistent and acute awareness of relevant health and safety regulations.

  5. Assignment: D15.1 Preparations for a Stage Performance Produce a fact sheet on 4 backstage roles at a theatre that contribute to a performance giving a detailed explanation of their roles and responsibilities and consider the Health and safety implications of their work. Produce a detailed scale drawing of one of the set for the production Produce a detailed plan of how you intend to set up for the production you will be crewing for in assignment D14.2 & D15.3

  6. Assignment: D15.2 Setting up for a Performance • Assist with the get-in/out of a performance working safely as part of a team • Complete a self evaluation of the process

  7. Assignment: D15.3 The Performance As part of a team you will crew for a live performance and complete a self evaluation

  8. Learning Outcomes On completion of this unit you should: • Understand the techniques and terminology involved in general stage operations • Know how to operate as a member of the crew preparing for and during performance • Know how to implement safe working practises when carrying out processes and using • tools and equipment.
