To gain a pass you must: P1 use acting skills with some technical control P2 use dance skills with some technical control P3 use musical skills with some technical control P4 perform musical theatre work with some imbalance between the three discipline P5 perform a role with commitment connecting with other performers most of the time P6 communicate some intentions to the audience P7 identify the main strengths and weaknesses of performance work.

  3. To gain a merit you must also: M1 use acting skills in ways that demonstrate a good degree of technical control M2 use dance skills in ways that demonstrate a good degree of technical control M3 use musical skills in ways that demonstrate a good degree of technical control M4 perform musical theatre work with a consistent standard across the three disciplines M5 perform a role with attention to detail and commitment connecting with other performers throughout M6 communicate intentions to an audience with some success M7 describe strengths and weaknesses of performance work with some reasoning.

To gain a distinction you must: D1 demonstrate a strong technical command of acting skills D2 demonstrate a strong technical command of dance skills D3 demonstrate a strong technical command of musical skills D4 perform musical theatre work with a consistent standard across the three disciplines with style D5 perform a role with commitment and imagination being responsive to other performers at all times D6 communicate intentions to an audience with clarity D7 explain in detail the effectiveness of performance work with considered conclusions.

Assignment: C11.1 Auditions Prepare the following as a recording for an audition to take part in a musical: • A short monologue / dialogue • A short dance routine • A short musical performance • Evaluate your audition and the standard of your skills using some of the following terms: • Acting: vocal techniques; physical techniques; vocal exercise; physical exercises; learning lines; use of extraneous aids; expressing meaning through words, silence; use of movement, gesture, stillness, facial expression; use of timing, pace, energy. Interpretation: analysing the given circumstances of text; interpreting the role; examining the relationship between musical, lyrical, spoken elements; applying research findings to the role, character; relationship with other roles, characters; coherence with the overall interpretation of the production • Dance: Physical skills: posture; alignment; coordination; balance; flexibility; strength; ability to reproduce action, dynamic, rhythmic, spatial awareness; movement memory; awareness of and relationship to other dancers in performance. Interpretative skills: eg projection, phrasing, musicality, expression, focus, emphasis, facial expression • Music: Technical skills: accuracy of pitch, rhythm, melody; musicality, style, tone, intonation, dynamics, tempo; learning tunes; musical memory. Interpretation: interpreting lyrics, mood, the character of the music; feeling for style, tempo, rhythm; following direction/accompaniment; cueing entrances, changes of tempo, dialogue links and/or dynamic changes • Produce a plan of what and how you intend to improve your skills in each of the 3 areas

Assignment: C11.2 Rehearsal Diary Keep a detailed rehearsal diary as you prepare for performance. • You should show how you improved your skills in each of the three areas through the rehearsal process • You should keep a constant review of your skills development and regularly set SMART targerts (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time bound)

  7. Assignment: C11.3 Performance Take part in a final performance of between 20 & 30 minutes. Evaluate the performance

  8. Learning Outcomes On completion of this unit you should: • Be able to use acting skills • Be able to use dance skills • Be able to use music performance skills • Be able to perform work that combines acting, dance and music performance skills.
