Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Umutlar 2 Restaurant Function of The building: Restaurant Umutlar 2 Restaurant Kaymakli Road Umutlar 2 Restaurant is located in the main street. One side of the building is connected to the kaymakli street , one side is touched the sub road, and there is a narrow passage way beside of the one side . The function of the place is restaurant that is serving some traditional food like kebab. In fact, the building has just one function so the identity of the building can be define clearly. The building doesn't have proper pavement and car park. For instance, the motor Bick parked in pedestrian way . More over, there is a restaurant in front of the Umutlar 2 and there are some other restaurant around it that can be give another identity to the place. Mezzaluna Ozgulen restaurant Visual Analysis: Physical Analysis: Umutlar 2 Restaurant is located in the Kaymakli road and closed to the kucukKaymakli square. It is one story building and the height is low and it doesn’t have relation with the buildings around it. The form of building is rectangle which the combination of the two cube. The level of the entrance is same as street level. along with, form of the around buildings don't have unity and There isn’t sufficient pavement around the building. Further , the restaurant has semi open space which people can have their meal there, ant it deliver the culture of the city that effect on design of this restaurant. The structure of the building is reinforce concrete column and beam. The building has two cubic form, and one of them is extruded and it is more out of the another cube which is located next to the sub road. there are a clean and clear rectangular form in the façade, and simple window with metal frame which is repeated on the facade so it created a place with too many openings to be more connected to outdoor and public spaces. Furthermore, The building constructed without any architectural style and relation to the past architecture , and there is no cultural translation for this design. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Mezzaluna Building Function of The building: Restaurant Parking Area Mezzaluna Building Mezzaluna Restaurant is located in the main street. One side of the building is connected to the kaymakli street , one façade is touched the sub road. there are series of shops in ground floor of the building and next to the restaurant . In fact, The building has two main function which is commercial in ground floor and residential above it. Further, the building doesn’t have car park for this public and privet place which is located in the main street. Kaymakli Road NazimErcika Building Visual Analysis: Physical Analysis: Mezzaluna Restaurant is located in the Kaymakli road and closed to the kucukKaymakli square. The building has four floors and the height of building doesn’t have relation with the buildings around it. The form of building is rectangle which has extension from the main façade of the building. The level of the entrance is same as street level. along with, There is pavement all around the building, but it doesn’t have any universal design principles. More over, there is a shading element in top of the restaurant which created a semi open space in front of the restaurant. The structure of the building is reinforce concrete column and beam. The building is completely symmetry, it has level differences in façade which is connected to the kaymakli street. there are a clean and clear rectangular division in the façade with repetition, and simple window with metal frame . Furthermore, The building constructed according to the minimal style without any relation to the past architecture , and there is no cultural translation for this design. Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Nazim Ercika Building Function of The building: Building Material store Social Analysis: NazimErcika Building Nazim Ercika store is located in the main street. one faced of the building is connected to the kaymakli street, one façade is touched sub road, also there are series of shops next to the building, and it is connected to the residential building from another side . There are some trees Beside of the entrance door, which is hiding the view of the entrance. The store is sailing the building material, so it needs large spaces to store the materials which dismissed in this building and they have to use pavement and open space to store them. Further, There is a grave yard cemetery in front side of the building, which can be critical point for the commercial building. Kaymakli Road Mezzaluna Building Visual Analysis: Physical Analysis: Nazim Ercika store is located in the Kaymakli road and near to the kucukKaymakli square . It contains four floors and the height of building is same as the buildings around it. The form of building is rectangle; that is a clear geometrical form, and the height of the building is same as height of the building which is located in the back side of the store. The entrance of the building is not in same level of street, and There is two stair to reach the entrance hall of the building. along with, There is pavement all around the building ,but it doesn’t have any guard or security for passengers. The material that they used for the building is reinforced concrete, so by this way beams are transferring the loads to the columns and foundation, plus they used reflective glass material to cover windows. The façade of building is clearly showing the structure of it which is combined with reflective glass and metal frame . Furthermore, The building constructed according to the modern style, but on top of the main entrance, there is a three angle element that can be referrer to the Greek architecture style. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Reis Super Market Building Function of The building: Market Reis Super Market Ozkan store auto gallery The building is located in the main road. one faced of the building is connected to the kaymakli street, and The another façade is touched sub road, also There is a car gallery and a huge storage building in other side of the Reis super market. As it has been shown in photos, there is a defined and clear car park for this public place which is located in front of the building. According to the function of building, too many costumer are commuting there during the day, thus the location of the building is perfectly suited for it’s function. Kaymakli Road Visual Analysis: Physical Analysis: The Reis Supermarket is located in the middle of the Kaymakli road. It contains two floors and the height of building is same as the buildings around it. The form of building is rectangle; that is a clear geometrical form, and it is in the same level in comparison of the buildings next to it. The entrance of the building is same as street level, and There is no need to construct stairs or ramps in front of the building. the building has pavement, but the design of it is not according to the universal design. Moreover, there isn't landscape design and it doesn’t have harmony with the buildings around it. The structure of the building is reinforce concrete column and beam. The façade of this commercial building is covered with glass which has steel frame structure. Furthermore, on top of the main entrance, there is a shading element which control the light and create shadow, also it create a semi open area, that they have been used to define a boundary to sail their goods. Indeed, they used reflective glass to design three faces of the building . The plane type of building is according to the open plan and the materials are used according to the modernist style, so there isn’t any clear relation between past and present in construct and design of this building. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Credit West Bank Building Function of The building: Bank Parking Area There is sufficient space in front and next to the building which is using as a parking. The building is near the main road which is start from Magusa and ends to Kyrenia so there are advantages and disadvantages for this location. When it’s near the main so it’s more reachable for the people . But on the other hand this building is close to the junction so it can create the traffic problem when people stop their cars there. Credit West Bank Home Appliances Car Gallery Kaymakli Road Visual Analysis: Physical Analysis: The building is located near the entrance of the Kaymakli road. It has eight floors and it’s higher than the buildings around it. The building is the combination of geometrical forms and its not in the same level in comparison of the buildings next to it. There are stairs that lead to the entrance of the upper floors and the bank. The sky line of the building doesn’t have harmony with the existing buildings around it, it is broken by the height of this building. The entrance of the bank is in front of the building and the entrance of the upper floors in side the building is at the right of the building. The structure of the building is reinforce concrete column and beam. The façade is the combination of concrete and glass and steel. The façade of the building in more area is covered by reflex glasses and it creates a modern façade for the building. This building is a modern building and there is no relation between it and the principles of traditional architecture in the island. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Muhtar Yusuf Function of The building: Commercial Complex Kaymakli Road One of the function in this building create a semi open space in front of itself so it is a good situation for connecting with out side. The building is near the Kaymakli square there are advantages and disadvantages for this building . Therefore, When it’s near the square it has reachable situation for the people . But on the other hand this building is close to the junction so it can create the traffic problem when people stop their cars there. Betting Muhtar Yusuf Commercial and official building Terminal Visual Analysis: The building is located surrounding square which is entrance of the Kaymakli road. It has the L form. This building has different function such as restaurant, shops and gallery. The main port of this building have three floor but its sides have two floor. Suitable open space was create in front of it and we can see the Califorian restaurant use a part of this for setting furniture. There is a space for car parking behind the building and it is very useful for people who come or work there. The entrance of the shops and restaurant is in front of the building and the entrance of the upper floors in left side of the center part of building. Physical Analysis: The structure of the building is reinforce concrete column and beam. The façade is the combination of concrete and stone and steel panel. The materials was used in façade have not harmony with together and seems every function in ground floor separate from this building. This building is a modern building and there is no relation between it and the principles of traditional architecture in the island. 8. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Necipoglu Building Function of The building: commercial Car Park Kaymakli Road Negipoglu LTD. This building is near to some other commercial and residential building. its façade in the ground floor was covered with glass so it has good connection with public space. It is located in the street that has the heavy traffic in special time. So , it has a space in left side which is used by cars bring materials for this shop and this way cause to avoid creation the traffic problem. Reis Supermarket Residential Car Gallery Visual Analysis: The building is located near the other shops with same functions. Therefore create the special zone for material of building. it has two Entrance that the main of them located in corner of the building and Definition with a set back and the other entrance is in the secondary street for going to upper floor and using storage shop. The sky line of the building has harmony with the existing buildings around it. This building use the some new material in the façade that can help it to introduced itself as building materials shop . Physical Analysis: The structure of the building is reinforce concrete column and beam. The façade is the combination of concrete and glass. The main façade of the building is covered by glasses in ground floor but the upper floor has divided windows. In façade use the modern material and there is no relation between it and the principles of traditional architecture in the island. There is shading element which control the light and create shadow. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: ………… Function of The building: Residential complex These social houses are located in a street that most of the buildings have commercial and official function. Because of the shops on the ground floors there is traffic problem and also noise population for the people who are living in them . The entrances are not obvious they are lost between the shops so its hard to guess which door is the entrance. Also the facades are really messy and old, it can effect on people’s emotions. There is a big cemetery in front of these building at the other side of the street but people can see it from the upper from of social houses, it’s not interesting when you sit on the balcony you have the view of the cemetery. Residential complex Kaymakli Road Grave yard cemetery Visual Analysis: There are several buildings near the main square which have the same elevations and height and they are like social houses with the same plans. They have residential function at the upper floors and commercial functions in the ground floors so these building are multifunctional buildings. There is no defined car parking and pedestrian space in front of the buildings. The elevations are messy and they need to repaint. There is not enough space between the street and street. It seems that these building were built later than the other buildings of to the Lefkosa road. The façades are simple. Physical Analysis: The structure of the buildings are simple and it’s concrete column and beam. The facades are simple too and there are arches on the top roof of balconies which inspired from Ottoman architecture. Surrounding buildings have approximately same height and same functions. There is harmony between selected buildings and existing buildings around. Buildings are located near the edge of street and there isn’t sufficient space between building and street. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Ozgulen Function of The building: Restaurant residential Kaymakli Road Ozgulen restaurant Umutlar 2 restaurant it has restaurant function so need a space for car parking because it has many people who come there for eating lunch or dinner. We can see The building is close to another restaurants so create restaurant zone. Therefore in special time that people come to there make the traffic in this part of street. It has not out door space but it seems to need more open space. But it has a good connection with the other its surrounding function. Betting Residential and Commercial Building Visual Analysis: The building is located near the first square of the Kaymakli street. It is a restaurant and has two floor. It has the triangle form and connected with two street. Ozgulen restaurant has a special characteristic in street with color, shape and place of located. Two different color use to define Ground floor and first floor which has different function. It has two entrance, one of them is designed in corner and belong to the restaurant, another that is located to secondary road and belong to the first floor that has residential function. The sky line of the building doesn’t have harmony with the existing buildings around it. Physical Analysis: Ozgulen restaurant has a different form with other building in this street. its façade is the combination of concrete and wood. The façade of ground floor is completely obey from architecture the other Ozgulen restaurant rang in other cities. Therefore the same material (wood) and color was used in this building for the restaurant function. But material for up stair façade is concrete. This building has not modern style and there is relation between it and some the principles of traditional architecture in the island. 11. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: BMW Cangar Function of The building: Commercial Cangar BMW galleries are one of the famous car galleries in the island. And in these days people are interested in luxuries. A tall building in a huge space which is covered with glass and filled with too many BMWs and motors with no existing buildings can communicate easily with the people and shows it identity to others. The galleries are located near the square and with no construction around, big parking area so being near the square cannot create any problems because people they don’t need to stop in the street, there is enough parking areas. There is functional relation between these buildings and the building in front of the galleries but there is no relation between their façade and structure. Car Park Area BMW BMW BMW BMW Kaymakli Road Visual Analysis: The BMW gallery is combination of two huge building which is located in the corner of the square. One has a circular façade and the other has flat facade. The buildings are covered with glass and you can see the cars and motors inside the buildings. In this area near the car galleries there are no existing buildings, as long as these buildings are huge with the modern façade and being tall in comparison with the neighbors when you pass from this part of the street they come to your eyes and can act as a focal point of that area. Physical Analysis: The structure of the round shape building is truss and the other one is column and beam with the void in the middle of the building. The buildings covered with glass and aluminum panels. The car gallery has three floors and two of them are mezzanine floors. The galleries were not built at the edge of the street, there is distance between street and buildings. The galleries are far from the street, There is huge space around the buildings for parking area. There are advertising bill boards with the BMW and MINI logos in front of the galleries. There are entrances in the middle of both buildings with out no level differences. And also there are entrances at the back of the buildings which connect the galleries with the servicing area. There are areas at the back of the buildings for cars which needs services. Its not visible from the main street. The façade is covered with glass so from the inside you can see outside area and inverse so there is strong relation between outdoor and indoor space. 12. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Ozkan Kosezade LTD. Function of The building: Commercial The building is located in one of the main street of the Lefkosa and at the corner with two facades with no buildings attached to it so it can easily communicate and attract people’s attention. The color which is used for the façade also is the color that didn’t use for the surrounding buildings and has a kind of contrast with the others so it can be a reason for attracting people. The space in front of the building is using for the parking, the space is not huge but because of the existing parking areas near the building so there is no problem with the car parking for the customer. Ozkan Kosezade Car Parking Visual Analysis: Physical Analysis: The building has its own single function at both floors. The building structure is column and beam and the façade is covered with glass and aluminum panels. The façade of the building is modern and it doesn’t have any relation with the tradition architecture of the old city of lefkosa. The building is not at the edge of the street, there are spaces at two side of it for car parking and to entrance which connect the building and the parking area. Ground floor is covered by glass so outside is visible from the inside. The building is located at the corner of the Kaymakli road and an alley with ends to the main street . The building has two floors and also because it’s located at the corner it has two façade that can be seen . At the first floor the façade is covered by glass and the second floor is divided to parts with glasses and walls. The height of the building is a bit low according to the height of the neighbor buildings so it makes some changes in sky line in this part of the street. There are two entrances in this shop on in the middle of the building in the main street and one in the side which face to the market next to it. Location of The Building in the selected street Lefkosa Road Most of the surrounding building have the commercial functions but there are level differences in the height of this building and surrounding buildings and also the color which is used for the façade. 13. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Bereketl. IGIL A.P.T. Function of The building: residential and commercial Residential building Parking area Kaymakli Road The character of the building is clear from its façade . But , there is no coherence between traditional style of houses and new apartment which is same in other countries. However this island has its own character. In this island houses need more open or semi open area for solving climatically problems. But, there is not enough space for outdoor activities . There is small space in front of the building which is using as a parking for shops. The payment is so poor in this street. Car Gallery Commercial and residential building Visual Analysis: The building is located in the middle of the Kaimakli street . In this part of the street ,residential building located close to each other because this region is more quiet and create residential zone. This building has three floors. It has geometrical forms and it is in the same level in comparison of the buildings next to it. Physical Analysis: The sky line of the building has harmony with the existing buildings around it. It is included different function such as house and shop .ground floor is occupied with shops and upper floors use as residence area. Location of The Building in the selected street The structure of the building is column and beam. The façade is the combination of concrete and glass and steel. It is simple and repeat one type of window on all façades. In one side of the building ,windows covered with shading elements . Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Ozyuksel Function of The building: commercial building Residential building Parking Area BMW building Kaymakli Road There is sufficient space in front and next to the building which is using as a parkingand this space organized very well . The location of the building is suitable for the function (furniture gallery ) ,because it located between residential buildings. It has its own characteristic in this street which most of the people know it because of its shape. This building is a modern building and there is no relation between it and the principles of traditional architecture in the island. But, still it identified with its design . Commercial building Visual Analysis: Physical Analysis: The building is near to new square and it is in front of BMW building .it has connection with main street in on side and secondary street on another side. It has three floor and formed with different shape . It looks like modern buildings. The height of the building is same as the existing buildings around it . It create with different cube which located in different level. Also, it has contrast between different floors on façade and plan .The entrance of the building defined very well . The has various design for third floor which looks like end of the building. The structure of the building is reinforce concrete column and beam. The façade is the combination of concrete ,stone, glass and steel. The façade of the building formed with variety of material and color .Also, it combined with transparency surface and hard one. The entrance defined with transparency material which is show inside of the building and make it more welcoming . All side of the building design according to function. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Nicosia betting Function of The building: official and commercial Kaymakli Road Residential This building is near to Kucuk Kaimakli square so it is more reachable for the people also this part of the city is so crowded. There is residential building in its neighbors. And there is no relationship between this building and its neighbors. The payment in front of building is not suitable .Also the connection between outdoor and indoor space is low ,because ground floor has no opening to street . Office building park Visual Analysis: Physical Analysis: The building is located near to main square . It has four floors with different function. it is the combination of offices and commercial functions. Commercial part is organized in ground floor and offices located in others floor. It has harmony in sky line with the existing buildings around it. It has small entrance for the offices. the facade covered with the advertising board .This building look to small beautiful landscape . The structure of the building is reinforce concrete column and beam. Building formed with geometric shape .The façade is the combination of different material like concrete and glass and steel. It has simple façade and using the different color for this and repeat same type of windows . The ground floor is completely different from other floors in shape ,color and material. 16. Social Analysis: Street Name: Kaymakli Street Building Name: Ercikalar LTD. Function of The building: Commercial and Official The location of the building according to the commercial view is really good, its located in one of the main street of the city but there are some problems that can effect on it. There is no defined parking space and also pedestrian for the people and customers . Also there are some trees in front of the main façade of the building that covered the façade and it’s not obvious that what is going on there for the people and cars that pass . There is an area next to the building which is fences and viators can see the inside and it is using as a storage , it creates a messy space next to the building and it has a bad view, it can effect on view of the building and definitely it will have some disadvantage s for the business of the company. Visual Analysis: The building is located in the middle of Kaymakli street. The building has 8 floors and the ground floor is shop and the upper floors are offices. It’s higher than the surrounding buildings and it changes the skyline clearly. The façade of it is covered with glass and it doesn’t have harmony with the existing buildings. In front of the ground floor there are trees and people can not see the shop very well and also there is no parking and pedestrian in front of it . There is an open storage next to it with fences that create a bad view for the street and also for the building. Physical Analysis: The building structure is column and beam. The façade is covered by reflex glasses at three sides . The façade is near to modern . Building is located at the corner so it has two connection s to street. There is an entrance in the corner of the building and there is no level difference for entering to the building. There are no buildings near and attached to it. There is no harmony and similarity between this building and surrounding buildings not in height and not in façade and also with the past architecture of the island. The ground floor is covered by glass and people can see inside of the shop from outside it means that there is a relation between indoor and outdoor area. 17. Street Analysis: Kaymakli Street Lefkosa is the political and commercial capital and the largest city of the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus . It has the population around 73,000 . Lefkosa is divided to two parts, one is Turkish part ( Northern ) and the Greek part ( southern ) and these two parts divided by green line boundary and Lefkosa is the last remaining divided capital city in the world. Nicosia is a walled city which is unique in having successive cultural layers of Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian, Ottoman, British and post British period one on the top of another. Lefkosa started expanded rapidly after the World War ll and its population started increasing. It's suburbs expanded rapidly during that period (1946-1965) and joined with the city . Kaymakli is one of the street that accommodated within the city and was upgraded to the municipalities. . Legibility Analysis: N Selected street is called KAYMAKLI street which is end to the Lefkosa Road. This street is one of the main streets of the Lefkosa. Kaymakli street is acting as a connection between the lefkosa main road and the city centre. There are different buildings with different functions in this street. Figure-Ground Analysis: N The figure-Ground map shows that the density of the buildings in this street is increasing of to the walled city. And also the street approximately divided in to two parts, from the second square the building construction methods are more modern and new. And from the second square of to the walled city the buildings construction are more old than the others. So it shows that the modern ones were built later . Civilization of the city started from the walled city and it has been spreading to the main roads.

18. Street Analysis: Kaymakli Street There are different functions which are located in this street such as commercial buildings ( Restaurant, furniture shop, car galleries, super markets, betting, building’s material shops, travel agencies and etc) and also official buildings ( offices, bank, and residential buildings . And some of them are multifunctional buildings, there are shops at the ground floor and houses on the top floors. There are some lands that there is no construction on them. There are adverting boards in front of each building at the edge of the street and they were not located in a regular format . Most of the buildings in this street are modern and also the facades . Even the building s don’t have harmony in facades and the materials that used for the facades. The buildings itself has the identity but when they gathered in the street next to each other they didn’t create an identity for the street. There are some buildings which are higher than the other and the others are approximately in a same levels and also there are some lands without any constructions so the sky line is changing in place of tall building and lands with no constructions.
