Week 5 at a Glance • Day 1 • DP1/Progress Report MEMO Evaluation • Objective: Continue work on DP1 requirements • Day 2 • Intellectual Property • Review for Test 1 (Monday, Sept 27th) • Objective: Learn how to effectively search prior art • Day 3 • Benchmark-Dissection Lab #3 • Objective: Reverse engineering and design of ICE

  3. Week 2; Day 3 - Assignments • Benchmarking Dissection #3 Exercise • IC Engine • Assigned reading (see syllabus)

  4. Why do we do dissection? • Benchmarking • What are the strengths and weaknesses of the product? • Are our customers satisfied? • What is the quality of the manufacturing? • Identify ‘best practice’ • Reverse Engineering • What are our competitors’ solutions to similar problems? • What can we learn from them?

  5. Dissection Benchmarking Exercise #3 • Create a OneNote team collaboration • optional • Follow the instructions carefully in the benchmarking document • Carefully take apart the engine • Keep track of the parts! • You have to put it back together correctly to receive full credit!

  6. Week 5; Day 2 - Assignments • DP1 • Due TODAY @ 5 pm (TEAM) • Unique (Wacky) IP Search • Due Monday (INDIVIDUAL) • +2pts on Test1 • Test 1 • NEXT Monday (INDIVIDUAL, of course) • IP Search Exercise (no MEMO) • Due NEXT FRIDAY as TEAM • Assigned reading & video (see syllabus)
