  4. SEL Skills SEL skills are essential to academic, personal, social and civic success.

  6. Multiplicity • One of the basic assumptions of IFS • It is the nature of the mind to be subdivided into an indeterminate number of sub-personalities or “Parts” • Living Room illustration

  7. Parts • Sub-personalities that interact internally in sequence and styles similar to the way people interact • Often forced into extreme roles or coping strategies that are protective in nature • Intention of Parts is positive (even when strategy looks destructive)

  8. Self • Everyone has a Self • Different level of entity than parts • When differentiated, the Self is competent, secure, relaxed, and has the ability to listen and receive feedback • The experience of being “centered” in Self

  9. IFS: A Non-Pathologizing Model • Undamaged inner wholeness of Self • Power of the language • Understanding behavior vs. judging it (all behavior has a function) • Healing experience of being heard and understood
