Key activities of UNCTAD Research, policy analysis and data collection Forum for intergovernmental deliberations aimed at consensus building Technical assistance UNCTAD statistics’ portfolio/mandate • UNCTAD statistics portfolio/mandate consists in maintaining a set of economic time series mainly designed for the research work of the economists of the secretariat.

  3. Time series tailored to the needs of economists Long : 40 years preferably, at least 30 years Regularly updated and recent data Continued series All countries of the world including least developed countries Harmonized to allow the combination of series and the calculation of derived indicators UNCTAD statistics portfolio/mandate

  4. As a consequence: Interactions between statisticians to produce harmonized statistics Interactions between statisticians and users to produce statistics that are in demand: Economists of the UNCTAD secretariat Analysts and academics in countries Plus media, civil society … UNCTAD statistics portfolio/mandate

  5. Reaching wider audience requires targeting core constituencies more directly, engaging in partnerships, and maximizing all appropriate channels of communication Main objectives of UNCTAD’s communication strategy: Enhance visibility, credibility and impact of UNCTAD’s work, through a sensible mix of traditional and innovative methods of engagement and dissemination Ensure effective dissemination to and feedback from main target groups UNCTAD: a “communicating”organization
