  1. UNCLASSIFIED ANA Getting New USACE Slaughterhouse • Assessment 2DEC12 • Afghan National Army operates aslaughterhouse in Kabul. The soviet era slaughterhouse will be replaced by $20M USACE facility under construction. • 28 ANA butchers slaughter 60 cattle & 55 sheep & goats /day in winter , but 1,100 sheep & goats /day in summer and no cattle in summer. • Waste water runs to the Kabul river. • ANA allows private sector butchers to use the facility at night to slaughter for $5fee/animal. • Private sector butchering away from sanctionedlocations is illegal, but about 50% of total. • Related Information • Kabul DAIL spent $8M of $14.2M 2012 budget to fund two new slaughterhouses for Kabul City. • Within 2 years Kabul City should have 3 new slaughterhouses. • Taking Action • Minimal action planned. • Assessment was conducted for situation awareness as part of Livestock Feed line of effort and information related to DAIL’s budget.
