  2. Introduction • Name • Title or position in company • Years of experience

  3. Ice Breaker • Explain that companies and corporations are recognized by their symbols or logos • Give them 2 minutes to draw a logo or symbol that reflects their personality, interests, or anything they want others to know about them. • Each trainee will then introduce themselves (by stating their name and where they are from) and explain their logo or symbol they drew and how it represents them as an individual.

  4. Purpose of Training • To ensure that hiring practices are being used correctly • Develop the right questions • Understand the interview process? • Hire the most qualified candidates • Best fit for the job

  5. Preparing for the Interview • Familiarize yourself with the job in which you are hiring for •  Familiarize yourself with the applicants resume

  6. Types of Interview Questions • Behavioral • Situational • Job-knowledge • Self-evaluative

  7. Activity • Have the trainees get into three groups of three • Come up with two questions for each type of interview question • Behavioral • Situational • Job-knowledge • Self-evaluative

  8. Legally Risky Questions •  Disability discrimination •  Sex discrimination •  National origin discrimination •  Religious discrimination •  Age discrimination

  9. Activity • Located in the trainees packet is a list of questions • Distinguish between what questions can or can not be legally asked in an interview

  10. Starting the Interview • Greet the applicant • Establish rapport • Eye contact • Non-verbal • Easy open-ended question

  11. During the Interview • Be a good listener • Don’t just simply read the question • Be patient • Body language •  Using probing effectively • Purpose • How? • What not to do

  12. Closing the Interview • Give the applicant the opportunity to ask questions • Thank the applicant • Be clear about the next step

  13. Mock Interviews • Located in the trainees packet is a sample job description for an administrative assistant position the trainer mentioned • Prepare interview questions tailored to this specific job  • Also use all the information that they have learned in the past 2 days and apply it  • Conduct the interview  • 1 person-interview • 1 person-interviewee • 1 person-observer • After the interview is complete, the observer will state the pros and cons and make suggestions on improving the cons.

  14. End Training • Review/Questions • Hand-out the anonymous 4 question survey to evaluate the training • Announcement of online anonymous survey that will be sent through email to see if the training was effective
