  2. What is “Frog”? Frog is the school’s new VLE – Virtual Learning Environment A VLE can act as an on-line classroom, communication tool and help centre for students.

Distributes News Gives students access to lesson materials and media-rich resources (e.g. video) Personal Planning Tools School Calendar online Online storage for a student’s files Allows “any time, anywhere” working – as long as there is an internet connected PC Social facilities (e.g. status updates, “The Feed”) Student access to their “My Documents” area on the network from a remote machine, Communication between teacher, student and parent (e.g. help, feedback on work) Allows students and staff to collaborate on work projects Allows parents to see how well their child is doing in school.

  4. This is called the “Crystal Menu” and allows access to all of the Frog functions. You can slide this bar to see all of the menu. Buttons L to R from the clock: Frog Home page; Log out; School Website; School Email and RealSmart. You can directly update your status here. You will find school announcements here. On your feed you can see status updates and messages from others AND notifications of work set by your teachers. Events on the school calendar will appear here. You can edit your profile here. This works largely like Facebook. You can add Friends here and see each other’s profiles.

  5. Implementation Timeline • June 2010 – Frog initial set up, social networking facilities explored by students. • Sept 2010 – Frog officially launched to school community. Increasing numbers of students and staff using Frog for lessons. • Oct 2010 – Parental Support Sessions planned. • Nov 2010 – Frog Parental Engagement Portal live.
