  7. Cognitive Distortions • Overestimating the time available / time it will take to do a project. • "I don't need to start, because I have three weeks to get this done." • Overestimating Motivation. • "I will feel like doing this tomorrow." • Requiring the right mood. • "I will be better at this on Wednesday when I am fresh."

  8. Internal Reasons • There are many internal reasons why we procrastinate among these are • Perfectionism • Fear • Disorganization.

  9. Perfectionism Perfectionism is a refusal to let yourself move ahead. It is a loop — an obsessive, debilitating closed system that causes you to get stuck in the details of what you are writing or painting or making and to lose sight of the whole.” Julia Cameron

  10. Remedies for Perfectionism • Therese Borchard, author, gives the following advice: • Remove yourself from the competition. • Everything is not about gauging yourself against the performance of others. • Do a reality check. • Being good at something is not the same as being the best at everything.

  11. Remedies for Perfectionism • Return to your exodus moment. • Find those moments where you have experienced real success, free from the stuff that doesn’t really matter. • Show your weakness/celebrate your mistakes • Polish them off and make reality a habit. • Add some color. • The world isn’t black and white, tolerate sloppiness, and ambiguity.

  12. Fear • Fear of disappointing others • Fear of failure • Fear of success • Success brings changes to our surroundings and the possibility of rewriting ourselves.

  13. Remedies for Fear • Write it down. (Keep a Journal) • Identify rational fears vs. irrational fears • Take active steps to plan strategies to remediate fear. • Seek help
