  3. Research Paper • 2 Phases • The Research Stage • The Writing Stage • The Research Stage • Plan the research. • Find the sources. • Prepare a working Bibliography. • Take notes to support the thesis with evidence.

Plan the Research • Understand the paper’s boundaries • How long is the paper supposed to be? • 8-10 Pages including the works cited. • Are there restrictions about numbers and types of resources. • No limit to the number of resources. • You should use academically relevant resources • DO NOT use Wikipedia • Use at least 1 journal article • Evaluate websites carefully

  5. Plan the Research • Purpose is not simply to inform. • “You should develop your own position using outside resources to arrive at a balanced but definitive conclusion” (p. 529) • Your writing should be in 3rd Person and should not be conversational in tone.

  6. Plan your Research • Prewrite to limit the General Subject if needed. • Conduct Preliminary Research • Identify a working thesis. • Make a schedule
