  2. MY ROLE/SCHOOL’S INDUCTION COORDINATOR • Be fully aware of the requirements of the induction period. • To co ordinate with and to support SL’s and NQT’s • To ensure NQT’s are treated fairly and receive the correct support • To ensure all documentation is up to date and accurate.

  3. YOUR ROLE/INDUCTION TUTOR • To be familiar with the standards (Dorset County NQT handbook) • At the end of the year it is a pass/fail. • Ensure that appropriate support, monitoring and assessment takes place throughout the year. (you should meet with the NQT at least once a fortnight) • Negotiate an individual programme, with clear objectives, based on the CEDP • Provide regular, well-founded feedback to the NQT on their progress • Arrange and conduct half-termly review meetings with the NQT as part of their formative assessment • Make formal observations once a term and provide fair, accurate and constructive feedback • Keep accurate dated records of monitoring, support, formative and summative assessment activities undertaken, and their outcomes - forward copies to Donna • You will have to make a judgement at the end of each term in relation to the standards. • Alert Ali/Donna of any concerns at the earliest stage. • For further information visit www.tta.gov.uk/teaching/induction

  4. NQT’S Role • Discuss their CEDP with you • Prepare for the first meeting to set objectives and an action plan • Be familiar with the induction standards and collect evidence to show how they are meeting the standards • Be fully engaged, proactive and take an increasing responsibility for their professional development • Keep an up to date record of observations, meetings, professional development, monitoring, evidence collected and assessment etc

  5. THE STANDARDS • There are four main sections: 1. Professional values and practice 2. knowledge and understanding 3. Teaching 4. Other Professional requirements When writing the half term review and end of term assessment refer to the standards( pages 5-14 County handbook 2005) If you have any concerns after the first observation liaise with Ali/myself.

  6. DOCUMENTATION • It is essential a dated record of all meetings, monitoring and support is kept. • Ann will create an NQT folder in your area with all the documentation clearly headed. • On completion of the half term review/end of term assessment form, please forward a copy to me for checking

  7. OVERVIEW OF THE INDUCTION PROCESS • All NQT’s will have a Career Entry Development Profile. (CEDP) • This highlights strengths and areas for development. Use this in the first few weeks to draw up an action plan. • You should arrange to meet once a fortnight to discuss progress, monitor and support the NQT • The action plan should include targets for behaviour management and dealing with special educational needs • Please set SMART targets. (A copy of a plan is on the network in the public area) • Email a copy to me and Ali

  8. FIRST HALF TERM • Within the first two weeks draw up an action plan and arrange to observe the NQT within the first four weeks of teaching. • They can choose the lesson and should provide a lesson plan they are familiar with. • Observe the lesson and feedback. (form on the network) Email a copy to Ali & myself • If necessary rewrite the action plan in light of any issues that may arise • If you have any concerns the NQT may not meet the standards alert Ali/myself. ( you will find the standards in the Dorset handbook, all NQT’s should have a copy)

  9. Half term review • This should take place the week before or the week after half term depending on when the review meeting is. • This is an important meeting to review progress, objectives and the action plan. • NQT’s should come prepared to this meeting and evidenced the standards they think they are meeting. (I will prepare them for this) • Ask them to show you their evidence to show how they are meeting the standards. • Review targets • Complete half term review and email a copy to me.

  10. Second half term • Continue fortnightly meetings • Ali/Donna to observe a different class and will focus on targets arising from previous lesson observation. • Hold an end of first term assessment meeting (simply up date half term review) • NQT should make a comment. • Email to me by end of the first week in December

  11. TERMS 2 & 3 • The same process as term 1 • Good Luck

  12. A FAILING NQT • Alert Ali/myself asap • Keep an accurate record of all
