  2. What is involved with the work? You puncture or cut a part of the human body to create an opening to put jewelry in.

  3. Where does the work take place? • The work usually takes place in a tattoo shop or a mall.

  4. What are the working conditions? • The work space has to be clean at all times and the piercers have to wash their hands and instruments before and after every piercing. • You are on your feet a lot taking care of the instruments and tending to clients. You also sit at a desk and take phone calls and do paperwork. • The hours vary and they also have to wash the piercing site.

  5. What is the size of the occupation?  How many people currently work in this field? • There are usually a few body piercers in each city and the size of the occupation is large and is greatly increasing. • In the beginning of the 21st century, the number of body piercers and people wanting piercings increased.

  6. What type of training is needed to enter this field? • Six months of trainee work and become an apprentice and start off by piercing under close supervision. • Trainee work would include; learning about various types of piercings and replacements, instruments, materials, health and safety, aftercare of piercing, allergies, and rejections.

  7. What is the possibility for moving up to a higher position? • The possibility for moving up to a higher position would be if you got your own shop and not pierce in someone else’s. You would be the boss.

  8. What can you expect to earn when you start?  After 10 years? • The income varies on a number of things. You don’t get a certain pay for just being a body piercer. • It depends on: the location you work at, how much competition is in the area, and how many hours you work.

  9. What are the future prospects of this career? • Work in someone else’s business • Owning your own shop • The more people who know about you the more business you’ll get.

  10. How do you use writing or speaking skills in this field? • You use both writing and speaking skills in this field. Writing skills because you have to fill out a lot of paperwork before you give the piercing. • You use speaking skills because you talk on the phone with clients about the business and then when giving the piercing you talk about aftercare and any questions they may have.
