NLERAP Network The National Latino/a Education Research and Policy Project is a network of engaged, critical Latino/a education university faculty, education researchers, teachers, administrators, and community activists committed to improving the education and sociopolitical well-being of Latino/a students, families, and communities.

  3. NLERAP Vision and Mission Create a collective national voice for improving the quality of life among Latino/as in the U.S. through education. To ensure equity and excellence in education for Latino/as in the U.S. via collaborative research, policy, programs, and advocacy in partnership with local, state, national, and international communities.

NLERAP Guiding Principles Honor sociocultural perspectives Recognize the sociocultural and historical context of Latino/a education Co-educar con las comunidades Promote social justice and democratic ideals Make our research and practices accessible to multiple stakeholders (i.e., families, community members, practitioners, business, as well as local, state, and national policy leaders.

  10. • 52% of all Latino’s are found in two states: Texas and CA; • Comprise nearly half of all students in California; • Over 40% of all students in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas; • Between 20-40% of all students in Nevada, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, and New York. Latino/a K-12 Public School Representation & Enrollment Growth From 2008–09 through 2020–21, public elementary and secondary school enrollment is projected to increase from 49.3 to 52.7 million students; Sources: Villegas, 2008; Batalova, Fix & Murray, 2006; NCES, 2005, 2011
