  5. Coastal plains The Coastal Plain forms the eastern edge of North Carolina ,making up about 45 percent of the states total land area.The coastal plains has swamps and lakes.A swamp is trees and shrubs. This is in the Inner Coastal Plain.Then there is marshes.Marshes is tall grasses.

  13. Where Is The Mountain Region • The mountain region is in the west part of NC • Is not near the water • It is next to the Piedmont

  14. What Is The Climate There? • In the day times averaging is in the low 40’s and upper 30’s. Snowfall in the mountains is usually 14-20 inches (36-51cm.) per year, but greater in the higher elevations.One time in the blizzard of1993, more than 50in. (130cm.) of snow fell on Mount Mitchell over a period of days.

  15. How Big Is The Mountain Region • The mountain region takes up to 11,000 square miles. It is roughly the size of Massachusetts.

  16. Attractions • John D. Rockefeller Jr. gave $5 million dollars to create the Great Smokey National park. • People hike there and ski and have tours • About 10 million people visit the park every year
