CB-07-02Knowledge Sharing for Improved Disaster Management and Emergency Response • The Task aims to contribute to increase the flow of existing knowledge to end users for use in their daily activities in the disaster management cycle and to consolidate actions that support this knowledge sharing. • This Task represents the first phase of the UN-SPIDER (Space-based Information and Solutions for Disaster Management and Emergency Response) programme. • GEO CB targets being addressed: • Human capacity building • Infrastructure development • Outreach and institutional reinforcement

CB-07-02Knowledge Sharing for Improved Disaster Management and Emergency Response • Milestones achieved to date: • Task presented to disaster-related communities and UN organizations at UN-SPIDER meetings and workshops (14 June 2007, Vienna; 29-31 Oct 2007, Bonn; 7-9 Feb 2008, Salzburg). • 3rd International Geohazards Workshop, 5-9 Nov 2007, Frascati • Expected milestones for 2008: • UN-SPIDER Regional Summer School, 2nd/3rd quarter of 2008, Brazil • Development of a concept model of a database of training opportunities that can be linked with other platforms. A trial version is planned to go online by 4th quarter of 2008.

CB-07-02Knowledge Sharing for Improved Disaster Management and Emergency Response • Extent of participation: • This Task is led by the CEOS Working Group on Education, Training and Capacity Building (WGEdu) represented by UN-OOSA and UNESCO, with BRGM, France and Z_GIS, Austria. • Coordination points with other GEO work plan tasks: • Outcome of DI-06-12 • Potential contributions to the CB portal/GEO portal: Website link • Expected product: A database of experts and training opportunities • Expected date of completion of task: End of 2008 • Expectations of task lead from CBC: Requests input from CBC members to database of experts and training opportunities
