  2. NYSERDA Who is NYSERDA? • New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) • Public benefit corporation created in 1975. • Primarily funded by state rate payers through the System Benefits Charge (SBC), which was established on May 20, 1996.

  3. Overview Who is NYSERDA NYSERDA offers a wide range of programs that provide funding and assistance for customers including: • Commercial • Industrial • Schools • Non-profits • Health Care Facilities • Residential

  4. What incentive’s are available for my project? Programs and Resources Several programs available depending on type of project: • Energy Audit & Flex Tech- PON 1746 • New Construction – PON 1222 • Existing Facilities – PON 1219 • PV Incentive – PON 1050 Coming Soon • GJGNY

Energy Audit Program/ Flex Tech Programs and Resources • Low cost walk through audit • Facilities which use less than $75,000 annually in electric utilities • $25,000 - $75,000 audit = $400 • Facilities under $25,000 = $100 • If customer chooses to implement any recommendations cost of audit will be put toward new measures

Energy Audit Program/ Flex Tech Programs and Resources • Provides engineering feasibility and technical assistance studies, divided into three separate components: 1) Energy Efficiency 2) CHP and Renewable Generation 3) PLCP’s (peak-load curtailment plans). • 50/50 cost share up to maximum of $1,000,000 from NYSERDA, or ten percent (10%) of the applicant’s annual energy costs

  7. Energy Audit Program/ Flex Tech Programs and Resources • Lets customer select engineering firm. • Provides a list of pre-qualified engineering firms. • Expires December 15, 2011

New Construction Program Programs and Resources • Eligibility: • New Construction • New building or portion within a new building where a licensed professional architect /engineer has prepared and certified building plans • Substantial Renovation • Change of use or • Work that requires the building be out of service for at least 30 consecutive days • Reconstruction of a vacant structure or space

New Construction Program Programs and Resources • Technical Assistance • NYSERDA will pay the first $5,000 and will cost share 50% of the balance up to a total contribution of $75,000. • Additional Incentives on projects that achieve LEED® or NY-CHPS certification, as well as Additional funding for Building Commissioning Services

  10. New Construction Program Programs and Resources Financial Incentives • Projects typically are categorized according to complexity. The Pre-Qualified measures approach is suitable for simple or small projects. • Applicants with more in-depth projects may choose from one of the approaches described below: • Custom Measure Approach/ Whole Building Design • Green Building Option Total project incentive cap $850,000

  11. New Construction Program Programs and Resources • Pre-qualified Incentives • Applicable to small or basic projects • Generally 50% of incremental costs • Up to $200,000 per project • Incentives must be pre-approved prior to purchase

  12. New Construction Program Programs and Resources Custom Measures • Performance Based • Up to $200,000 per project • Capped at 50% of incremental cost • Can reduce to 1-yr payback • Pre-approved based on study prior to purchase

  13. Existing Facilities Program Programs and Resources • Pre-Qualified Incentives – Applicants can receive incentives ($/unit) for energy-efficiency and conservation measures. Projects cap out at $30,000 • Measures include: • Lighting - Commercial Refrigeration • HVAC - Commercial Kitchen Equipment • Chillers - Interval Meters • Motors - Gas Efficiency Equipment (Con-Ed only) • VFD’s

  14. Existing Facilities Program Programs and Resources • Process: • Check the appropriate Pre-Qualified application to make sure that all proposed equipment meets the eligibility criteria. (Check with NYSERDA if you are not sure of equipment eligibility). • Purchase and install equipment. • Complete and submit the program application, and the appropriate Pre-Qualified application, along with the required documentation, including a recent utility bill, equipment specification sheets, and invoices for equipment and labor. Applications must be submitted within 90 days of project completion.

Existing Facilities Program Programs and Resources Performance-based Incentives • Electric Incentives- capped at $2,000,000 per facility. • Gas Incentives–capped at $25,000 or 50% of incremental project cost, whichever is less. • CHP Incentives- Incentives are capped at $2,000,000 per CHP project. • Industrial Process Incentives–up to $5,000,000 per facility, not to exceed 50% of project cost.

  16. Solar Electric Incentive Program Programs and Resources • Provides cash incentives for the installation of new Solar Electric or Photovoltaic (PV) systems by Eligible Installers. (A list of all Eligible Installers is available on NYSERDA’s website) • In general, incentives for a typical residential or commercial system cover approximately 12-20% of the installed cost of a PV System. Customers may also be eligible for New York State and federal tax credits.

  17. Solar Electric Incentive Program Programs and Resources • Residential – $1.75 per watt up to a maximum of 5 kW per site/meter, and not to exceed 50% of the total installed system costs. • Commercial – $1.75 per watt up to a maximum of 50 kW per site/meter, and not to exceed 50% of the total installed system costs. • Not-For-Profit - $1.75 per watt up to a maximum of 25 kW per site/meter, and not to exceed 50% of the total installed system costs. • New York State ENERGY STAR® Labeled Homes and Building Integrated PV systems are still eligible for a $.50 per watt added to these above incentives, not to exceed 50% of the total installed system costs.
