  1. Title: God with us Series: Exodus - The fulfilling of a promise Scripture: Exodus 40

  2. God with us • 1) A conclusion • 2) A problem with the conclusion • 3) An ultimate solution to the problem with the conclusion • 4) Implications for us

  3. God with us • 1) A conclusion • Ex 2:23ff -During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.

  4. God with us • Ex 25:8 “Make a sanctuary (tabernacle) for me and I will dwell among them.” • 40:33 “Then Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work.” • V34 – “Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled upon it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.”

  5. God with us • 2) A problem with the conclusion • a) A barrier remains between God & His people. • b) God’s people still aren’t home. • c) The tabernacle wasn’t a final solution for God dwelling with His people.

  6. Mat 1: 18-21 - This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. • 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

  7. God with us • Mat 1:22-23 - All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God with us’.” • Mat 27:50 “And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.”

  8. God with us • 4) Implications for us • a) Remember what Christmas is about. • b) Remember that God is with us in this life • c) The best is yet to come! • Rev 21 :1ff - Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

  9. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
