What Is Bullying?

Bullying is when someone keeps doing or saying things to have power over another person.

Bullying: A person who is habitually cruel or overbearing, especially to smaller or weaker people

how does bullying start

Bullying can begin as early as preschool and intensify during transitional stages, such as starting school in 1st grade or going into middle school.

Researchers estimate that 20 to 30 percent of school-age children are involved in bullying.

Victims of bullying are often shy and tend to be physically weaker than their peers. They may also have low self-esteem

A bully is a person who purposely tries to hurt others by:

· Making them feel uncomfortable.· Hurting them by kicking, hitting,

pushing, tripping, etc.· Name-calling.· Spreading nasty rumors.

There are a variety of reasons why Teens bully

Another reason why teens bully others is that adults don't give them the skills they need to be able to tolerate and appreciate the differences of others

One reason a Teen bullies is because he (or she) "has a deep troubling need of his own"

Also Teens bully because they may fall into a trap by thinking that bullying is just "the cool thing to do," especially in front of their friends

Many people think that bullying is a normal part of childhood or that "kids will be kids." However, research shows that in fact, bullying can cause negative academic, physical, social, emotional,

Physical: Leaves damage on your body you feel pain all over

Mental: Mood swings, including anger or sadness Acting sad or depressed

Social: Wanting to avoid going to school or going to school a certain way, such as taking

  • Is afraid of going to school or other activities with peers
  • Loses interest in school work or begins to do poorly in school
  • Appears sad, moody, angry, anxious or depressed when they come home

includes spreading rumors or stories about someone, that are not ture
