  1. Beginning Band-Advanced Band Band Class

  2. New Curriculum • New Course Titles • Band I, II, III, IV  Beginning, Intermediate, Proficient, and Advanced • Proficient and Advanced are automatically worth honors credit, from what they have told us • Rigor and Relevance • More Music Theory and Music History • More research in our performance preparation • Measures of Student Learning, not yet, but coming

  3. The Great Divide • Beginning Band & Two sections of Prof-Adv Band • Two sections were suppose to be one for winds and one for percussion • This would have allowed more technique and music specific focus for the students

  4. The Great Divide • What actually happened • Still have Beginning Band • Smaller classes have more individual focus • SAIL and after-school rehearsals will be full band rehearsals • More individual responsibilities—You have to know YOUR part

  5. Projects • We’re not in marching band; how does that work? • We will all learn the same music • You will have alternative projects and assignments that will balance out the course work • Like playing the anthem and stand tunes with us on Friday nights • Playing for your church • Playing as a small ensemble for the nursing home • Playing for the Arts Night in October, TBD (To be determined)

  6. Housekeeping • Dismissal when work is done ANDwhen room is clean • Put up your instrument and music and stand • Music stands, flip the top first, then slide on rack

  7. Housekeeping • Chairs create a mess • Please order them when stacking

  8. Housekeeping • These go with the tables

  9. Drop off • 7:30 is when the building opens • Before then you need to make an appointment (if you need practice time, if you need to be dropped off regularly because so-and-so works…) • Drop off at back door only with instrument • No “hanging out” in the band room in the mornings • 30 seconds in instrument storage room

  10. Office Hours • 7:00 – 7:30 am • 11:40-1:15 pm • Some afternoons, limited due to marching band • DO NOT CALL PERSONAL CELL unless it is an emergency, you will be absent/late to a performance—for STUDENTS and PARENTS • I don’t answer cell during day, only afterschool. Call band office from 7:00am -3:00pm

  11. Grades • Daily Rehearsal/Preparation 35% • Playing Assessments 25% • Performances/Projects 25% • Written Assignments 15% • Be prepared, be organized, do what is asked of you to the best of your ability • Demand excellence in everything you do

  12. First Week assignment • Get materials on Supply List • BREAD BAGS :D

  13. New School Rules • NO CELL PHONES—off and out of sight, no belt clips either • Hats off and in locker before 8:00am • Dress for Success! Be professional in everything, especially your clothes

  14. Bathroom Passes • Slip at the beginning of the semester • Put it somewhere safe, your band binder, make sure it won’t fly away during marching band—That’s your 5. Use them wisely. • Fill out the Date and Time on the block closest to the end • Bring it to me; I will check, sign, and cut. • That’s your pass. Make sure you keep it for the return trip

  15. More to come during the week • Stay tuned. This will be updated.
