  3. I. Ulysses S. Grant • Lincoln turns to Grant after years of poor leaders • Grants tactics: • ATTACK, ATTACK, & ATTACK • Utilizes the Union’s superior numbers to eventually defeat Lee and the Confederacy

  4. II. Union Path to Victory • Union resources starting to pay off • Confederacy is in desperate need of resources like: • (food, medical supplies, ammo, supplies, & soldiers) • This forces General Robert E. Lee to take necessary risks -- Gettysburg

  5. III. Surrender at Appomattox • On Sunday,April 9th, 1865Robert E. Lee surrenders to U.S. Grant in the small town of Appomattox.Court House, Virginia. • After 4 years of war Lee’s army is starved and broken.
