  1. Workshop Summer Project – Week 1 Based on previous creations by the children, in the workshop, our group were offered a selection of materials to make something that they could wear. When asked about their thoughts on what to make the children’s ideas centred around some form of headwear, such as “a crown”, “a mask” or ”a nice hat”. Once they had decided what to make the children worked independently, or with support, to create their idea. Can I change how I look…Who can I be? The children were then asked to think about who they might be? One child’s idea seemed to spark another child’s thinking until a story began to develop. Rehim, as King, began to assert his authority over the Superheroes. Noah realised there was no Queen for King Rehim and Rashard decided he was the Knight to help Princess Leona. Leona – “Me a Princess, she sleeps in the forest” As soon as the children were wearing their hats or masks they transformed into their character through their ideas, body posture, facial expression, and actions. Ethan- “I be a Hulk”. Rashard- “I’m the Knight. The Knight has to build for the Princess.” Rehim – “I’m the King. There can only be one king” Noah-”I’m the servant. I do everything for the king” Cayden – ”I a superhero”

  2. Workshop Summer Project 2014 Transformation • This term we are working with the children in small project groups based on their interests in order to develop the children’s thinking, learning and development together. • We offer the children questions which challenge their thinking • We listen carefully to how they respond, reason and evaluate • We support and deepen the children’s thinking about what they are doing by offering open ended resources and the space to make their thinking visible • We are often amazed at their thinking and understanding, the way they learn from each other and how they can apply what they know in different ways to test out their theories

  3. “Got some eyes and eye brows” - Leona Workshop Summer Project – Week 2 What do I look like? “I have black eye brows. My hair is flat.” -Rehim The children looked at their photographs then drew their own representations of what they look like. “I doing my hair like this”- Noah “I got little hair. Mommy give me a kiss on my head”-Cayden “I need eyes. Just colour these colourings” (stripes) -Rashard

  4. Leona - “I’m a tiger” Workshop Summer Project – Week 2 Using the same pictures the children then used resources to alter their appearance. Next they drew a portrait of themselves, after their transformation. Who had they become? Noah – “I a old man. I haven’t got no head ‘cos I changed into a ugly, old man.” Cayden – “I’m a man looking for animals.” Rehim – “I look like a clown. A really funny, monster clown” Rashard – “I am a clown”
