  7. Sample Writing Prompt It is wise to weigh options carefully before making decisions, but waiting too long to decide can lead to missed opportunities. Write an essay in which you explain both the value and the challenge of carefully considering options before making decisions.

  8. English Test • 40-minute timed test • Revising and editing questions: • English grammar and usage • Punctuation • Sentence structure • Sentence formation • Identifying parts of a text • Identifying the purpose of a text • Language use • Word choice • Consistency in style and tone • Using references

  10. Sample English Question The problem, though, was that riders had to sit perched high up on these bicycles, creating a hazard regarding their position when they rode. Most people—with the exception of daring young men—didn’t ride the high-wheel. • Which choice provides the most precise information about a potential effect of riders having to sit high up on the high-wheel bicycle? A. NO CHANGE B. frightening situation in terms of their orientation. C. dangerous tipping hazard. D. fearful issue

  11. On Test Day • Students should be in test rooms by 8:15. As all LFC who normally have 1st period off-campus are coming to LFC that morning, plan for extra traffic if you normally drop your child off at Lowery. • Students should bring their ID, several pencils, and a calculator if they wish to use one. • Students should plan to see their 6th, 7th, and 8th period classes– they will not go to 1st or 5th period. • We will go to lunch a little later than normal. Students should consider bringing a snack to eat in your test room.

  12. Score Reports • Expected in early December • We will communicate with parents when score reports arrive • English and Math teachers will see students’ scores so that they can use them to provide instructional support.
