  2. The Heart • A muscular double pump • Pulmonary circuit – takes blood to and from the lungs • Systemic circuit – vessels transport blood to and from body tissues • Atria – receive blood from the pulmonary and systemic circuits • Ventricles – the pumping chambers of the heart
