  1. Basic Bible Christianity Lesson Fourteen Love your neighbor—Part 2

  2. Search the Scriptures • Study Matthew 5:21-37. • What does Jesus equate with murder? • hatred • What phrase does Jesus use as an example of placing one in danger of hell? • “You fool!” • If there is trouble (a grudge, hard feelings, etc.) between you and another person, what should you do before you presume to worship God? • Be reconciled • What is a better solution than going to court—or being taken to court? • Settle the matter privately Lesson 13 Love Your Neighbor – Part 1

  3. Search the Scriptures • What does Jesus equate with adultery? • Looking at a woman lustfully • Verses 29 and 30 seem very strong. What point is Jesus making with these words? • Cut the sin out of your life—it’s dangerous! • What was the Old Testament requirement for divorce? • A certificate of divorce • How did Jesus limit divorce? • Except in cases of marital unfaithfulness (and desertion), divorce is sinful. Lesson 13 Love Your Neighbor – Part 1

  4. Search the Scriptures • What is the consequence of unscriptural divorce? • adultery • What does Jesus teach about swearing (taking an oath)? • We shouldn’t do it needlessly. • Instead of punctuating our conversation with spicy words, how should we speak? • “Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ ” Lesson 13 Love Your Neighbor – Part 1

  5. True or false T/F T T T F Since the Ten Commandments were given in the Old Testament, they no longer apply today. Honoring our parents and others in authority is something we are to do for our whole lives, not just until age 18. If someone in authority tells us to disobey God, we should respectfully decline—and bear the consequences. Bearing a grudge or plotting revenge are the same as physical murder to God. It is permissible in God’s eyes to end a pregnancy that is the result of rape or incest. Lesson 13 Love Your Neighbor – Part 1

  6. True or false T F T F T Dirty jokes, coarse language, pornographic material, suggestive literature, etc., are sinful because they pollute the mind and incite to lust—the same as adultery in God’s eyes. Capital punishment is merely state-sanctioned, society-sponsored murder. In cases of divorce, a Christian will continue to want to be reconciled to his or her spouse, if it is possible to do so. Homosexuality was condemned in the OT but is permitted under the NT covenant of grace. Through the commandments, God wants to make us completely aware of how sinful we are. Lesson 13 Love Your Neighbor – Part 1

  7. Questions for discussion Sometimes gossip, bitterness, and feuding find their way into families and into churches. How can these situations be rectified in a God-pleasing way? What does Scripture say about those who refuse to be reconciled with one another? As Christians we lament the general state of immorality around us in the world. Sin and temptation abound all around us. Do you think the state of affairs in today’s world is worse or different from that in the days of the early Christian church? How do Christians meet the challenges of living in a moral cesspool? Lesson 13 Love Your Neighbor – Part 1

  8. Questions for discussion You encourage a friend or family member to make better choices concerning the music they listen to and the things they watch. In response, the person says, “I don’t really listen to the lyrics in the music, and the things I watch don’t even affect me.” How do you respond to this line of thinking? Lesson 13 Love Your Neighbor – Part 1
