Sideline Rooters. Some people are wimps. They don't have enough courage to be personally involved, but they do enjoy watching others in a conflict. Nations are that way, too. Some are not powerful enough to be dominant, yet, they enjoy rooting for someone else. Sideline Rooters.

  1. Sideline Rooters • Some people are wimps. They don't have enough courage to be personally involved, but they do enjoy watching others in a conflict. • Nations are that way, too. Some are not powerful enough to be dominant, yet, they enjoy rooting for someone else.

  2. Sideline Rooters • Ancient Edom Was A Sideline Rooter • The Edomites were descendents of Esau (brother of Jacob). • Edom = "red" - Gen 25:30, 36:8-9

  3. Sideline Rooters And Esau said to Jacob, "Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary." Therefore his name was called Edom. Genesis 25:30 So Esau dwelt in Mount Seir. Esau is Edom. 9And this is the genealogy of Esau the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir. Genesis 36:8-9

Obadiah 3-4

  9. Sideline Rooters • Ancient Edom Was A Sideline Rooter • Edom was a wimpy nation • Lived in the hills in relative security • Had no faith in God, only trusted own might • Had no real military strength • Just were not worth the trouble to flush out of the hills

Sideline Rooters “For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever. 11In the day that you stood on the other side-In the day that strangers carried captive his forces, When foreigners entered his gates And cast lots for Jerusalem-Even you were as one of them. 12But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In the day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress. 13You should not have entered the gate of My people In the day of their calamity. Indeed, you should not have gazed on their affliction In the day of their calamity, Nor laid hands on their substance In the day of their calamity. 14You should not have stood at the crossroads To cut off those among them who escaped; Nor should you have delivered up those among them who remained In the day of distress.” Obadiah 1:10-14

Acts 7:58 Now Saul was consenting to his death. Sideline Rooters It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles--that a man has his father's wife! 2And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you. 1 Corinthians 5:1-2

Sideline Rooters • Edom Was Not The Only Sideline Rooters(indications are that God is not pleased with side-line rooters). • Not all sideline rooting is bad. • Your support tonight is good • Your presence at a funeral/wedding, etc. is important • There is a need for fan support (at ball games, etc) • The danger is if we are always on the sideline and never get personally involved.
