About the Teacher • I have been with my husband, Chip, for 24 years. • We have one son, Chad, who is a Junior at Northshore and interns here in the Library. • I have been an active PTA member and was PTA President at HIE when Chad was in 3rd grade. • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and • Master’s Degree in Educational Technology & Leadership from Southeastern Louisiana University • Certified & Highly Qualified to teach 1st - 5th grades • Love my family, friends, reading, cooking, LSU, & the Saints • Celiac Disease

  8. Writing • Mini-Lessons • Narratives, Opinions, Informational, Response to Literature • 3 writing grades per 9 weeks • Looking for complete sentences, correct punctuation and capitalization, minimal misspelled words, staying on topic

Math • Following St. Tammany Parish Guaranteed Curriculum’s scope and sequence and the State Standards • First unit is an introduction to Multiplication and Division and will last 5 weeks. • How does Math look in our classroom? • What should I expect my child to bring home? • Parent information for RDW, number bonds, tape diagrams, etc.

Reading • Following St. Tammany Parish Guaranteed Curriculum and LA State Standards • Mini-lessons • Close Reading – focusing on comprehension • First anchor text is Charlotte’s Web and will last 7 weeks (books can not go home) • DIBELs Assessments • How can you help your child be a successful reader?

  11. Daily 5 • What is it? • Stamina • What are the students doing? • What is Mrs. Carter doing? • Strategies used during this time will help students become better readers and writers as they work on comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding their vocabulary.

  14. Afternoon Dismissal If your child has a transportation change, you must send in a note. If the change happens after your child has left for school, feel free to call the school office at (985) 641-3557.

  16. Grading Policy We follow the St. Tammany Parish grading policy. A 93-100 B 85-92 C 75-84 D 67-74 F 0-66 Graded Paper Folders JPAMs
