  2. HOW IS IT USED? It’s not actually not used in it but rather used to explain how the trick works. Otherwise it’s very difficult to explain the tricks with numbers (the number may tend to get confusing after sometime).

  3. How? People might not know that you are using a algebra trick on them at first but if the person is smart enough, it will very soon become clear later (unless the trick is really a good one which might sometimes even involve studying how people think)

  4. In Conclusion… Algebra is for smartypants like us!

  6. ALAKAZAM!! Think of ANY number Add 5 Double the result Subtract 4 Divide the result by 2 Subtract the number you started withAnd you’ll get… 3

  7. PROVE TO YOU • The number which is chosen: X • Add 5 to the number chosen : X+5 • Double the result: 2X+10

  8. PROVE TO YOU • Subtract 4: 2X + 6 • Divide the previous result by 2: X+ 3 • Subtract the original number from the final result: 3

  9. MAGIC • Step 1: Write down the year you were born. [p] • Step 2: Write down a year when an unfortunate event in your life took place. [q] • Step 3: Write down your age as of the last day of this year. [y – p]

  10. Step 4: Write down the number of years that passed that unfortunate event (in Step 2) took place. [y – q] • Step 5: Add the 4 numbers obtained from Steps 1 through 4. [p + q + (y – p) + (y – q)=2y]

  11. EXPLANATION Look at the variables that were added in Step 5. They are: p + q + (y – p) + (y – q) = p + q + y – p + y – q, by removing parentheses = p – p + q – q + y + y, by rearranging the terms = 2 y, as the p’s and q’s cancel each other out(2y= 4014, when y = 2007)

  12. EXPLANATION • The number in Step 1 combined with Step 3, deletedthe number in Step 1, giving the current year, which is 2007; similarly, the number in Step 2 combined with Step 4, deletedthe number in Step 2, will then give 2007.

  13. EXPLANATION • By adding all the 4 numbers found in Step 1 to Step 4, deleted every number other than twice the current year, 2007, giving the result of 2 x 2007 = 4014

  15. WANNA NOE ABOUT YOU • Think of your age • Multiply your age by 2 • Add 10 • Multiply results by 5 • Add the number of siblings you have • Subtract 50

  16. Let Me Tell You Why • Think of your age in years: 3 [10x+y] • Multiply your age by 2: 26 (2[10x+y]) • Add 10: 36 (2[10x+y]+10) • Multiply by 5: 180 [100x+10y+50]

  17. Let Me Tell You Why • Add no. of siblings (z): 182 [100x+10y+50+z] • Subtract 50: 132 [100x+10y+z] Ans: you are 13 yrs old with 2 siblings

  18. TELL ME YOUR BIRTHDAY • Take the month of your birth. Example. 1 for Jan and 12 for Dec • Times 5 • Add 6 • Times 4 • Add 9 • Times 5 • Add the day you are born on • Now tell us the number you got

  19. I TELL YOU • Let the month be m. • 4(5m+6) =20m+24 • 5(20m+24+9) =100m+165 • 100m will put the month at the hundreds and thousands place (varies).

  20. The day that is added lands behind the month in place of the tens and ones. • After that the extra 165 is removed without telling you. • So you get your D.O.B
