  2. Pre’s Childhood • Was born in Coos Bay, Oregon • Was too small for football so decided to run. • Parents were middle class people.

  3. Accomplishments • Went to the 1972 Olympics in Munich. • Fought the AAU. • Best runner of his time and at one time held every American distance record.

  4. Effect on History • Inspired people to be the best they can be. • Helped make it so pro athletes could compete in the Olympics which would change how the United States compete in the Olympics forever.

  5. Abe’s Childhood • Was born in a one-room home. • Abraham’s mother died when he was very young. • Abraham educated himself by reading books.

  6. Accomplishments • Helped to abolish slavery. • Helped the United States through the Civil War. • Was assassinated because of what he did for the country.

  7. Effect on History • Made it so every African American was free which was one of the greatest things ever done in history. • Kept the United States together.

  8. Who had more of an effect on history? • Abraham Lincoln had by far a more significant effect on history. • Prefontaine had a huge impact on running. • Prefontaine also fought the AAU which made it so that Olympic athletes could be paid. • Abraham Lincoln however was probably the greatest president we have ever had. • He kept the country together.

  9. Similarties • They were great leaders. • They inspire people to this day. • They both were not the most talented but worked the hardest and did the most possible with their talent.
