  1. Assignment: Write a personal letter and communicate your observations from a specific event during your lifetime. Include specific details about this experience. Also, include sensory details within the letter (similar to what Equiano does), and follow up with a reaction.

  2. Steps for completion: • Receive topic/assignment. • Select event which includes 4/5 senses. • Use the observation chart provided (record a detail related to sight, hearing, etc.). Follow up by elaborating/expanding with more vivid language (see space provided on graphic organizer). • Utilize rubric.

  3. Proper letter-writing format: • Date- upper right hand corner • Approx. two spaces below, left side of page- Dear Recipient • Approx. two spaces below- indent and begin letter. • Proper closing (Sincerely)

  7. Practice • My brother threw a large rock that hit me in the head and I fainted. • I saw the large grey mass being slung in my direction, and the impact of the sharp rock against my skin caused me to immediately faint.

  8. Practice • Due to the medication he received he started to lose all of his hair, and he had to wear a cap to hide it. • We watched as his hair slowly fell out in clumps due to the medication he was receiving, and he wore a smooth white cap to hide this.

  10. Tips to remember: • Your topic sentence should include your topic! • You have the proper letter writing format in your notes (or at least you should have taken these notes). Don’t jeopardize points/grade because of laziness. • Highlight all sensory details within the letter before submission • Please follow the requested order of papers for submission. Points will be deducted if you are missing something.
