This publication outlines a method to determine the beam rate in MINOS experiments with applications to future neutrino studies. Current and projected uncertainties are discussed, with plans to update results for publication. The approach is vital for experiments like T2K, emphasizing muon charge-sign determination capabilities.

Determination of the MINOS e beam rate from the measured rate David Jaffe and Pedro Ochoa • Would like to produce a MINOS publication describing • the technique and results as described in doc-3821. • The method is applicable to future long-baseline neutrino experiments with a near detector capable of muon charge-sign determination (e.g. T2K). • We describe work planned to update the results in doc-3821 and proceed to a publication draft for approval by the nue working group. Summary of doc-3821 and plans • Measured rate of beam e wrt SKZP expectation is: total unc. stat Systematicuncertainty in (e)/() syst • Current and Projected uncertainties: + with total pHE MC sample, expect stat. uncertainty to drop from 24% to ~19% (mainly pHE data stats) • Projected final result, assuming no change in central value, is: • ( total unc.) Note: a comparable amount of pME data would greatly reduce the beam geometry and hadron prod. systematics D.Jaffe, P.Ochoa
