  2. The main characters of the film • Molly • Daisy (Molly’s sister) • Gracie (Molly and Daisy’s cousin • The Chief Protector of Aborigines, A.O Neville (nickname devil)

  3. Film in context • Context refers to the time and place in which the film is set and made. • The film was set in the nineteenth century, when Aboriginal children were removed and distanced from their families as part of an attempt to Christianise them.

  4. New words and terms • Half-caste = Aboriginal children that had one white parent and one Aboriginal parent. These half-castes were thought of as sub-human, similar to animals • Genre = the look and feel of a film. For example, is it horror, adventure, drama, romance, science fiction, historical and documentary. Some films are a mix of genres.

  5. The Story • In 1931, Molly, Gracie and Daisy were taken away from their families at Jigalong in the north of Western Australia. • The three children were taken to the Moore River Settlement near Perth, Western Australia. • It is based on a true story.

  6. Why study Rabbit-Proof Fence? • It is a way of understanding Australia’s past and it’s policies. • It helps us to understand Aboriginal people • It shows us how Government policies can effect our lives.
