  1. Apex Connectivity Jorge Zuniga jzuniga@commandalkon.com (913) 384-0880

  2. Session Objective • This technical session provides an in-depth understanding of the different connectivity options with Apex systems. This will include an overview of the legacy transfer options, as well as outline new and current features in Data Replication including replication options and requirements. The session will also review different options you have when connecting to Apex, e.g., Citrix connection, client connection, and local users. The target audience is…. Apex Connectivity

  3. Session Objective YOU! Apex Connectivity

  4. Session Overview • Apex Connection Options • Apex File Transfer • Direct Transfer • Apex Data Replication • New Features • Simple Troubleshooting Steps Apex Connectivity

  5. Apex Connection Options • Citrix • Client • Local • Remote Desktop Apex Connectivity

  9. Apex Connection Options • Remote Desktop LOCAL MACHINE APEXSERVER RDP Apex Connectivity

  10. Apex File Transfer • Primarily for sites with dial-up, WAN, or LAN connection. Apex Connectivity

  11. Apex File Transfer • Requires configuring for each individual site. Apex Connectivity

  12. Master File Transfer • Requires for each table you want to transfer to be setup individually. Apex Connectivity

  13. Direct Transfer • Direct Transfer is NOT available on Version 4 and 5. Apex Connectivity

  14. What is Apex Data Replication • What is Apex Data Replication? • Replaces Direct Transfer • Allows the synchronization of data across Apex systems Apex Connectivity

  15. What is Apex Data Replication? • As close to real-time as currently available. • Uses SQL Event Trigger technology to manage when data replication occurs. • Can replicate data between data sources: • Apex to Apex • Apex to Non-Apex • Designed to run as a service. • Can handle several times the load compared to legacy Apex transfer systems. Apex Connectivity

  16. What is Apex Data Replication? • GUI designed for easy use and configuration. • Easily replicate configuration on multiple machines • Can be configured to run all location replication needs from a single computer, or separate computers, depending on customer needs and VPN infrastructure. • Can run on the same or different installation machine as Apex. • Uses Web Services and/or direct database connection access to read/write data changes. • Highly configurable with maximum flexibility. Apex Connectivity

  17. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Configuration is created via GUI and stored via text based configuration files (.jwscfg) • Multiple instances can be configured and run on the same machine. Apex Connectivity

  18. Apex Data Replication • Point to point access is managed through System IDs. • Each instance can be configured to replicate data out, in or both directions. • Can choose to Distribute only, Replicate Only, or both per instance. • Multi-thread capability available. Apex Connectivity

  19. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Interval and logging configuration is much simpler than previous legacy applications. Apex Connectivity

  20. Apex Data Replication Configuration • System can be easily configured for multiple locations. Apex Connectivity

  21. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Location/destination setup is all configured within the DR GUI. An Apex installation is not needed. Apex Connectivity

  22. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Outgoing data tables are configured independently of one another. Apex Connectivity

  23. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Field content based distribution can be configured via header or corresponding detail tables. Apex Connectivity

  24. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Apex Data Import Service or Ticket Import Service (TIS) Apex Connectivity

  25. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Apex Data Import Service or Ticket Import Service (TIS) Apex Connectivity

  26. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Apex Data Import Service or Ticket Import Service (TIS) Apex Connectivity

  27. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Configuration for error logging and reporting is available Apex Connectivity

  28. Apex Data Replication Configuration • Incoming table can be configured to protect fields and to replicate data back out to other locations if necessary. Apex Connectivity

  29. Apex Data Replication Service • The Data Replication service can be configured with auto-start and auto-recovery features, if something causes the program to stop. Apex Connectivity

  30. Apex Data Replication Service • Once the services are configure on both ends, you can simply start the services and you’re ready to go. Apex Connectivity

  31. New Features • New GUI design • New options at start of configuration for plant and office Apex Connectivity

  32. New Features • Office and plant default configuration is pulled from its own individual template Apex Connectivity

  33. New Features • Ability to test HTTP connection from within the DR configuration screen Apex Connectivity

  34. New Features • Outgoing data does not default to “Replicate Deleted Records.” • If table doesn’t typically need a distribution field, then the default will be “Table is sent to all destinations.” Apex Connectivity

  35. Simple Troubleshooting Steps • Is the CAI JWS Data Replication Service “Started?” Apex Connectivity

  36. Simple Troubleshooting Steps • Can you “hit the URL” (HTTP connection)? Apex Connectivity

  37. Simple Troubleshooting Steps • Can you “hit the URL” (HTTP connection)? Apex Connectivity

  38. Simple Troubleshooting Steps • Can you ping the plant/office? Apex Connectivity

  39. Simple Troubleshooting Steps • If your Apex folder is shared, can you UNC the plant/office? Apex Connectivity

  40. Simple Troubleshooting Steps • Is the plant/office “on the network.” Apex Connectivity

  41. Simple Troubleshooting Steps • Have the records replicated? Apex Connectivity

  42. Please Complete Your Evaluation • Be sure to circle the session you are evaluating on the back of your card • Bulk Materials • BLK-008 • Apex Connectivity • All breakout session materials can be accessed at:www.commandalkon.com/cc2012/update/index.htm • Thank You! Apex Connectivity
