  1. Motorists may expect cheaper petrol prices during the Christmas season. After a year of record gasoline prices, Sydney motorists will get a much-needed break at the pump, with the average petrol price down 12 cents in the last 15 days. Following a time of rising gasoline costs, commuters are likely to experience a respite over the holiday season. The NRMA predicts that gas prices in Sydney and regional NSW will reduce in the coming weeks and into the New Year. “Since fuel prices in Australia reached records for the highest average prices, the nation is gradually seeing relief,” the NRMA said in a statement. In Sydney, the average price of standard unleaded gasoline is 168 cents per litre, down 12 cents in the last 15 days. Over the last week, average prices in regional NSW have dropped by 0.7

  2. cents per litre, with the most dramatic drops in Bathurst (2.5 cents), Wagga Wagga (2.6 cents), Moama (2.7 cents), and Yass (2.7 cents) (2.9 cents). Drivers in the country’s largest cities have hailed a broad drop in the price of normal unleaded gasoline. The average price in Brisbane has dropped to 151.6 cents per litre, with the NRMA recommending locals to “fill up today.” In Adelaide, the average price has dropped to 157.6 cents per litre, while Canberra’s average has stayed constant at 169.3 cents per litre. The average price for standard unleaded in Darwin has stayed unchanged at 169.0 cents per litre, while prices in Hobart have remained stable at 178.4 cents per litre. Melbourne fuel prices are starting to increase, with the average now at 149.1 cents per litre, prompting motorists to fill up soon, while Perth petrol prices are starting to decline, with the average now at 166.3 cents per litre. According to NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury, Sydney motorists have had a very costly year at the pump.

  3. “It’s been a rough year at the pump for Australian households, with fuel prices not only breaking but utterly smashing, records — Sydney’s new record highest prices are now 11 cents higher than the previous record,” Mr Khoury said. “We are now seeing prices fall, and we are calling on oil firms to cut their prices with the same zeal that they raised them.” Mr Khoury advised residents to utilise gasoline price comparison apps to guarantee they are receiving the best deal possible throughout the holiday season. “In Sydney, the difference between the lowest and most costly service stations is 48 cents a litre – or $27 for a full tank of petrol in a typical vehicle,” he explained. “Do your homework before you depart for your Christmas break since the NRMA wants you to spend your money on your vacation rather than at the browser.”
