Introduction Strong packs have: A good annual pack program planned a year in advanced that is shared with every family as a calendar • Annual program planning conference (年度計劃) • Mid year (May – Jun) - plan for the next whole year (Aug – Jul) • Year end - another meeting before year end re-chartering • Monthly pack committee meeting (每月團務會議) • Reviewed previous activities and update the progress for next 3 upcoming activities. • Approved and updated plan by pack committee • Get help and inputs from committee and adults

Annual Program Planning In General Den Leader Program Planning Pack Program Planning • FUN of Cub Scouting is still there! • Pack program events can help support adventure requirements. • Outdoor adventures, Pack campfire and Pack overnight camping. • Using the Cub Scout Adventure Analysis Worksheet in planning your annual program. • Coordinating your planning – Pack, District, Council • Audience for requirements • Requirements for Rank and Electives • Read through the new requirements – What works when for your location and climate • Recognition • Preparing to Lead the Adventures – Den Meeting Notes

  4. Who Should attend? All pack committee members All Den Leaders All Pack/Den aids and Den Chiefs (optional) Chartered Organization Representative Your unit commissioner (optional) And anybody else you think might be helpful such as other parents

Key information prior to the meeting • Key school dates • Community event dates • Your chartered organization’s dates (CASA) • Personal dates that may affect your pack’s activities such as the Cubmaster’s anniversary cruise • District and council dates • Collected Family Talent Survey Sheets from all parents • Last year’s pack annual plan if you have one.

Five Steps of Annual Program Planning Before you start the planning process, explain: The importance of Annual Program Planning Why you are doing it The rules for the process during this meeting Step1:Collecting the Dates from different resources Step2: Review what your pack did last year. Step3: Brainstorming on activities Step4: Assign event and pack meeting planners/adult leader Step5: Review your plan and publish

  7. STEP 1 Collecting the Dates from different resources Take the dates you collected and put them into your pack master calendar Add den meeting dates

STEP 2 Review what your pack did last year • What events went well? • What events didn’t go so well? • National Summertime Pack Award? • Journey to Excellence Award? • Den and pack attendance? • Cub Day Camp or Family Camp? • Did we sell popcorn? Ask questions, but don’t spend too much time on this

STEP 3 Brainstorming on activities (腦力激盪) • Derby • Pine wood • Space • RainGutter • Cubmobile • Camping • Summer Day Camp • Family Camp • Pack Camp • Educational • Zoo • Museum • Aquarium • Fire Station Visit • Sports • Ball game • Fishing • Rock Climbing • Hiking • Other • Blue & Gold Banquet • Family picnic • First Aid Training • New Year Party • Pet Show • Bike Rodeo • Water Rocket

STEP 3 Prioritize the list • Is a particular activity something for dens or the pack as a whole? • Could the activity be incorporated into a den or pack meeting? • Take a vote, then add to the calendar Your calendar should include: School and community dates Holidays Some personal conflict dates Den and pack meetings Additional den and pack activities District and council dates

STEP 4 Assign event and pack meeting planners/adult leader • Must have trained adult leaders to lead activities • Most outdoor activities require outdoor training trained • BALOO - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation Good planning and preparation in advance will lead to family satisfaction • Out of county activities require local PERMIT- registered at council • Driving direction, map, contact person phone & emergency contact • Communicate activities frequently through e-mail • Use Den Chief’s help if possible

STEP 5 Review your plan and publish Once you feel comfortable, publish or email your annual plan to each family • Not everyone has an email account, so be sure your distribution reaches all families • Sharing the annual plan with your families could be the most important step in retaining your Scouts and building tenure
