Amazon River Floodplain Analysis Using Satellite Data

This study utilizes passive microwave observations to analyze inundation area and the area/stage relation in the Amazon River floodplain. The mainstem regions are outlined with an orange overlay, based on SMMR data analyzed by Sippel et al. (1998). Background image features JERS wetlands mask at 20:1 resolution. The research by Hess et al. (submitted) focuses on dual-season mapping of central Amazonian wetlands from JERS-1 SAR mosaics.
