  12. Structure of narratives • Orientation (Introduction) • Complication (The problem) • Sequence of events (The development) • Climax (The most exciting part) • Resolution (Problem solved or the ending) • Coda (Comment) Remember: Of Course SurabayaCan RuleCanada

  13. Introduction • Provides an orientation. • Tells the reader who is in the story, when the story is taking place and where the action is happening. • Describes the landscape and setting of the story.

  14. Body • Has a complication - that sets off a chain of events that influence what will happen in the story. (Remember! A narrative MUST have a complication!) • Sequence of events - where the characters react to the complication. • Climax - the most exciting part

  15. Conclusion • A resolution in which the characters finally sort out the complication (or fail to do so). • A coda that provides a comment or moral based on what has been learned from the story. (optional)

TELL LAURA I LOVE HER Laura and Tommy were lovers He wanted to give her everything Flowers, presents and most of all, a wedding ring He saw a sign for a stock car race A thousand dollar prize it read He couldn't get Laura on the phone So to her mother Tommy said Tell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her Tell Laura I may be late I've something to do, that cannot wait He drove his car to the racing grounds He was the youngest driver there The crowed roared as they started the race 'Round the track they drove at a deadly pace No one knows what happened that day How his car overturned in flames But as they pulled him from the twisted wreck With his dying breath, they heard him say Orientation Complication Sequence of events Climax
