  1. ‘Giving that honours God’ Malachi 3 6-12

  2. 1) The grace of God v6 • ‘I the Lord, do not change. • So you, the descendants of Jacob are not destroyed. Ever since the time of your ancestors, you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them.’

  3. ‘Give, because God has been so gracious to you…..’

  4. 2) The worship of God v7-9 • The Israelites weren’t paying ‘tithes and offerings’. • This threatened the worship of God at his Temple

  5. They needed to return to God’ • This would lead to a fresh desire to give • so that God would be worshipped

  6. For Christians today, our giving should be:- • Regular • Proportionate • Generous

  7. ‘Give, so that God is worshipped, and his kingdom extends’

  8. 3) The promises of God • v10-12 • ‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse that there may be food in my house. Test me in this’ says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven, and pour out so much blessing that there will not be enough room to store it.’

  9. An invitation to test God’s willingness to bless… • A blessing that is couched in material terms… • But a blessing that points forward to abundant spiritual blessings

  10. ‘Give, because God’s promises to bless can be trusted’

  11. ‘Give, because God has been so gracious to you…..’ ‘Give, so that God is worshipped, and his kingdom extends’ ‘Give, because God’s promises to bless can be trusted’

  12. A call to many to review our giving • A call to some to discover the joy of giving for the first time • A call to us all to reflect on God’s generosity to us in Christ….
