What is the Problem? • There are some who do not like the narrator nor his (or her) tone at all: • “The arrogant, unimaginative, and very ‘adult’ narrator assume this story about little Hobbits must be relegated to an audience of little creatures—children” (Chance 60). • Several note that Tolkien himself seems to have regretted elements within the narrator
